Activists reschedule L.A. immigration rally after permit denied

LOS ANGELES -- An immigration group agreed to postpone a downtown rally until April 7 to avert a potential confrontation with police, officials said.

Before the agreement, Latino Movement USA had wanted to hold its rally this Saturday.

But the Police Commission denied a permit because it had already given its OK to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce to hold the downtown Golden Dragon Parade.

Some activists said their free speech rights were being violated and threatened to go ahead with the rally without a permit. Police warned they would arrest people if a large crowd gathered without city permission.

Organizers finally agreed to reschedule the event that's expected to draw more than 50,000 people.

"I think when the dust settled, none of us wanted to be in a confrontational mood with the authorities," group member Juan Jose Gutierrez said.

The Police Department has agreed to the new date, but the commission still had to sign off on the permit.

I guess on April seventh we'll find out if Homeland Security is really serious about illegal immigration. Unfortunately I already know they are not.

Ultimately they get their orders from the President - we already know he could care less about the law. War on terror is a joke if you cant protect your own borders.

Not that I approve of the goobers, but doesn't the Constitution give us the right to assemble?

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

They have a track record, and it has blemishes. Even still, I think they need to be able to assemble. That being said, I also expect, that if they want to be ugly (vandalism, malicious, riot), the law should have the fire department close, to knock them down with full on firehoses, and that the police can beat them, as long as they are violent, and do what is neccesary to get them in a patty wagon to take them to jail, for the aforementioned violations. People need to know who they stand with.

In Florida we stood 300 strong, after the police told us we had to disperse, we pointed out that the farm bureau had invited us, and that we were peaceful, and there for the greater good. They stood back and watched a peaceful rally, from start to finish (way to go American farmers and supporters)!

That's what I thought.

And my thanks to the founders for not splitting that infinitive!

So anyone wanna tell me why these people aren't allowed to gather without threat of arrest?

The above is just some of the thought line from that particular segment of the community (illegals most likely)

We'd like to get them all in one place to shoot a net over them, Might take a loonnnggg time to process them!!!
