What a bunch of whiners.

I made a great living writing software...

Now they do it in India for half what I made.

Am I on freerepublic.com whining about it? NO,

I went out and learn a new trade so I can compete.

Folks can whine and complain until they are blue in the face but it won't change a thing. Adapt or perish... It's your call... good luck!

You must be a pretty lousy software engineer. I'm still in the business and I'm making twice what I was 5 years ago.

Exactly. If these people are illegals, then go raise hell with the politicians until you get satisfaction. Making yourself into a whining victim is unbecoming.

It's just a matter of time 'til your job vanishes, too.

I've got a friend, a programmer for Chase Manhattan. He lost his job, as did everyone else, when they shipped his entire division over to India.

Henry Ford figured out that Americans need good jobs that pay well, so he would have customers for his cars...nowaday corporations say "screw the workers, screw Americans. If we can ship all our jobs overseas and lay off 25,00 Americans, that'll give everyone in management multi-million dollar payoffs!"

But what about when there ARE no good-paying jobs in America??

the problem is: how are you going to feel when your new trade is taken over or outsourced, and you go out and learn ANOTHER new trade and then THAT is outsourced and so on and so on....how many times are you willing to start from scratch in your life before you lose it?
