A DAILY NEWS DIVIDED ON ITSELF CAN'T STAND [MSM Dinosaur count defective eggs before they hatch]

A civil war has erupted inside the Daily News over the paper's reaction to revelations that their reporting on a New York City police officer who died of lung cancer was flawed.

-snip-

For weeks, many insiders at the paper had been congratulating themselves in advance, stating that they felt the stories about the late police officer were "a lock" for a Pulitzer Prize, either in the Public Service category or for Editorial Writing and possibly both.
Now, with Editorial Page Editor Arthur Browne publicly blaming the flawed reporting on the news side, many think he is making a last-ditch attempt at calming the waters and still getting the prize for his side.

Truly it is amazing ... how a newspaper cares more about winning a stinkin Pulitzer by exploiting the traumas and tragedies of individuals who selflessly went into that toxic pit in the aftermath of 9/11 out of a sense of duty to humanity, rather than by honoring their sacrifice.

However Officer Borja went into that pit, or whenever the time period it might have been, the fact remains that he went in there dutifully and selflessly to help out in the rescue effort. That can never be taken away from our memory of his effort.

To politicize his sacrifice, or in the Daily News case, to exploit it for a Pulitzer, is the lowest of the low as far as I'm concerned.

God Bless all those who offered their services and help at Ground Zero during that terrible time, in impossible conditions, and while I'm at it --- God Bless our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan also.

" However Officer Borja went into that pit, or whenever the time period it might have been, "

You really need to read the article.

From The Daily News:

One editorial said, for example: "Borja reported to Ground Zero after the World Trade Center collapsed, and he labored in the pulverized concrete, glass and smoke that formed a cloud over the rubble." Again, there is no documentation that Borja was there until three months later, when the fires that burned under The Pile were largely extinguished and the dust cloud had abated in intensity.

The article, and those like it recently, states quite clearly that Borja's logbook records show that he came in to help out later, in December, at (or near) the pile of rubble. This isn't my point of contention, that Borja himself did anything unethical, but that MSM activists twisted his story and fabricated a politically self serving one so that it was made to sound like he was right there after the towers collapsed, and now they are aching for a Pulitzer over their fabrication after the whistle has been blown on them.

Key word here is largely extinguished ... yes, most of them were out, but there were still quite a few still burning for several more weeks. And not just smoldering, these were live fires, within the pile, which were still burning.

My information on this comes firsthand from people who were there; responders, FDNY, NYPD, residents in the area
