Giuliani's Golden Ticket? [California Polls]
Claremont Institute ^ | 02/21/07 | Michael Brandon McClellan

Posted on 02/21/2007 11:03:00 AM PST by BunnySlippers

In a move to increase its relevance in the presidential selection process, the Golden State is set to jump up its primary from June of 2008 to February 5th, less than a year away.

This may benefit New York's presidential aspirants, and especially its Republican one.

Last week I noted Giuliani's electric support at the California Republican Party convention. A recent poll has resoundingly brought forth the same message. This morning, the Wall Street Journal's John Fund notes the following numbers:

With California moving its presidential primary to Feb. 5 of next year, what Golden State voters think about White House politics has actually begun to matter. A new poll of likely primary voters by San Diego-based Datamar, Inc. shows the two current frontrunners to be Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani. The poll shows Ms. Clinton with 34% of the vote, leading Barack Obama's 24% and John Edwards' 16%. Given Ms. Clinton's enormous name ID advantage, her lead is not compelling. On the GOP side, pundits were startled to see former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani with 41% support, John McCain with only 17% and Mitt Romney trailing with 11%.

It is early, and a great deal can happen in a year, but those are stunning numbers for the former Mayor. If present trends in California continue, the Golden State's primary move may just be Giuliani's golden ticket to the nomination.

As a die hard Original Intent conservative, I would rather have Obama or Hitlerly in the White House than Giuliani. This man is a product of and fan of big, controlling (i.e.: Marxists) government who thinks NYC's "special circumstances" permitted him to advocate what he thinks is a violation of the 2nd Amendment everywhere else.

Gag.

Better an enemy who is declared, marked, and handled as one than an enemy who pretends to be an ally.

We don't need a federal level "Arnold experience".

Polls are showing Rudy would get 87-90% of the GOP vote which is as high as anyone ever does.

Hillary will not win ONE Southern state.

Nice how you never addressed the real issue of a sleaze bag who dropped a 14-year marriage with an BS annullment (second cousin), divorced a second while chasing another woman, and lived with 2 homos while the marital dust of number 2 settled...and then married again.

The funny thing, 2nd wife Donna Hanover thought she was getting the heave-ho because of Rudy's well-known relationship with yet another woman, Cristyne Lategano, the mayor's former communications director.

Your guy makes BJ Clinton look like an amateur horn dog.

I never said what Rudy's position was. I was stating a fact that THOSE ISSUES are important to social conservatives. Geez, you people like to put words in everyone's mouth. Why don't you at least READ and then THINK before you post an argument that isn't there? Don't waste my time!

Rudy has never given a clear answer on his euthanasia position.

Kerik was RECOMMENDED BY GIULIANI to Bush!

One of the polls listed today shows the Won't Vote segment of the GOP to be constant no matter if the candidate is Giuliani, McCain or Romney with Romney actually having the largest group of Won'ts at 5%. The others were 2-3%.

No matter WHO is nominated there are going to be Republicans who are P.O.ed and won't vote. So that threat wrt Rudy is eliminated.

You mistakenly confuse the "Won't Vote" numbers with "Will Vote, but for someone else"

There are a number of issues

Je Accuse

He has not been seen to floss after every meal.

There is good authority- which his campaign has not denied- that he has picked his toes in Poughkeepsie?

The maturity level of the ragers reached a new low last week. I can't even post some of the things that were said. And that the posts were allowed to stand speaks volumes about FR.

"...a candidate of his choice."

Good idea. Why don't we wait and see who the candidates are before throwing rocks at those who don't bow at the feet of Saint Rudy?

Way to go, areafiftyone. Terrific research. I have to find a way to save that WITH the links.

BTW, I'm going to post that article about how great Rudy is on fiscal conservatism.

Yeah-But Kerik would have been an awesome Homeland security Chairman. He's tough not a mealy-mouth bureaucrat. The MSM killed him.

McCain going down is great news. I like Romney in double-digits.

Here is the link to the Poll Results .

What's this, Duncan Hunter with 5.9%? This is 3x his best polling result anywhere else.

Note Antonius, that it was Hunter Bane Plutarch that brought these glad Hunter tidings to FR.

Area - I tried to post a new thread about Deroy Murdock's table which reflects Rudy's fiscal conservatism. But when I previewed the table, all the numbers were jumbled.

I guess we'll have to wait for someone who knows how to post it with the columns intact.

I think Kerik's own shady past did him in, not the MSM.

Why did the Vatican grant the annullment. You have an issue with the Catholic Church.

More internals from the Poll Results .

Note that Romney, who is routinely castigated as a RINO at FR, receives just as much support from the "very conservative" group as does Duncan Hunter. This unlike Guiliani and McCain, whose support is from the "Somewhats". If Romney is a RINO, he must have done it by fooling those "very conservative" CA Republicans.

The survey also shows that the support between the candidates is divided among two mayor groups, the “very conservative”, and the “somewhat conservative” groups within the Republican Party.

Giuliani and McCain are even in the support each received from the “somewhat conservative” group.

Giuliani has 50% of their support, while McCain received 50.6% of the support.

Most of the other candidates [including Romney] received support in the 60% range from the “very conservative” group.

Very positive news for Rudy!

I see that California's "favorite son" didn't even make the list; how telling.
