Federal officials are scheduled to meet with local authorities today in Laredo to discuss border security.
Sen. John Cornyn and Secretary Michael Chertoff of the Department of Homeland Security have planned meetings with Texas border mayors in a follow up to a gathering held last month in Washington, D.C.
In the January meeting, held at the office of Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, the leaders talked about the federal governments plans for the border.
According Mayor Raul Salinas, Chertoff said he is not in favor of an actual wall along the Texas border but instead supports the use of sensor technology.
A Republican-controlled Congress passed a bill in 2006 to build a fence along the entire border, but now backers of the plan fear the fence might never get built, according to the Associated Press.
According to Cornyns office, the senator wants the Department of Homeland Security to work closely with local officials as it moves forward with border security initiatives.
Cornyn wants to discuss bringing parity to the visa admission periods for Mexican and Canadian nationals.
He also wants to talk about developments with the US-VISIT program, intended to allow the government to identify foreign visitors who have overstayed their visas.

I'm not in favor of an actual Homeland Security Director but instead would like to replace him with a movie avatar.

Cornyn is a sellout to Mexico.

The federal government knows that companies love the cheap illegal labor working for a fraction of American wages.
The Feds also know that Mexico will explode in revolution without the underclass dump valve that is their northern border.
Chertoff (a.k.a. Skeletor) is just towing the party line on this, what meat puppet.

use of sensor technology.
They are getting a little more conscious of their language "sensor technology" Isn't that the "virtual fence"?
A fence cannot be virtual, that is a very poor use of language.

Chertoff said he is not in favor of an actual wall along the Texas border but instead supports the use of sensor technology. That would be that "virtual fence" thing, right?
Instead, how about a "virtual" Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security?
That way, good `ol Mr. Michael Chertoff can carry his stinky nose back to the house.

"A fence cannot be virtual"
Except the ones they use for dogs and other animals. The problem would finding enough shock collars for every border jumper.
