Rudolph Giuliani?
American Thinker ^ | February 21, 2007 | Selwyn Duke

Rudolph Giuliani for president?  Please.  There's more chance I'll simultaneously be made head of NOW and the NAACP and be invited to George Soros' next soiree.

I know a little something about Giuliani.  Although my politics, faith, appearance, gun case and, well, most everything about me say otherwise, I was raised in New York City.  And one of my last acts before departing the Den of Iniquity for suburbia was to cast a vote for America's Mayor.  Don't hold it against me; he was running against David Dinkins, a man who made Forrest Gump look smart.

Unlike the piece I wrote about the now listing U.S.S. Mitt Romney, I'm not herein trying to sound the alarm.  Rather, I simply point out that Giuliani is a ship that only floats in New York Harbor.  He is far too liberal to get the Republican nomination.

I've never witnessed a more laughable game of collective "Let's pretend" than the media's Giuliani coverage.  Even Dick Morris, the erstwhile Clinton propaganda minister who fancies himself the Niccolo Machiavelli of the third millennium, has called Giuliani the man to beat.

He's more like the man who will be beaten - and by more than one candidate, mind you.

The media love to point out how Giuliani is the poll-leader for the Republican nomination, a fact which means absolutely nothing.  All many people in middle America know about him is that he didn't pull a Ray Nagin on 9/11 - he stoically shepherded his city through that dark hour - and that he rendered a captivating, earthy speech at the 2004 Republican National Convention.  And on his list of credits I'll add that after ferociously battling the mafia as a United States Attorney, he followed suit as mayor and cleaned up NYC, reducing crime and improving quality of life.

This is all well and good but, unfortunately, Giuliani only looks palatable when viewed through the narrow prism of these few events.  And sometime very soon the average Republican voter will learn something: Liberal NY Republicans are different from liberal NY Democrats.  They have an "R" next to their names.

As mayor, Giuliani never missed a chance to march in the "Gay Pride" parade.  He actively supported "gay rights" and said he was "proud" of his domestic partnership initiative (a step toward anti-marriage).  Most egregiously, he once opined that homosexuality is "good and normal."

Giuliani also favored government funding for abortion and said that the type of infanticide known as "partial-birth abortion" should not be outlawed in NY.  And while he now says he is "personally opposed to abortion," he also once asserted, "I'd give my daughter the money for it [an abortion]."  I guess he thinks his kids should have the right to choose and receive Big Daddy funding.

Giuliani has also been an advocate of abridging Second Amendment rights and the type of invidious discrimination known as affirmative action.  He has opposed school prayer and tuition tax credits.  He at one time said he endeavors to resurrect the spirit of Rockefeller Republicanism and that he would consider endorsing Bill Clinton, stating "most of Clinton's policies are very similar to most of mine."  Then, he did in fact endorse ultra-liberal NY governor Mario Cuomo in 1994.  Anyway, enough about that.  You get the idea.

My point is that Giuliani's golfer son has more of a chance of winning the Masters (he is a phenomenal player) than father does of capturing the Republican nomination.  Allow me to lend this some perspective.

The hate-America-first crowd likes to say, perhaps when pondering the political prospects of Lady Macbeth and  Barack Obama, that no woman or black person could be elected president.   But now let's talk about something unprecedented that actually is impossible.

To the best of my knowledge:

- No pro-abortion candidate has ever won the Republican nomination.

- Nobody who has been in bed with the homosexual lobby has ever won the Republican nomination.

- Nobody who has opposed Second Amendment rights has ever won the Republican nomination.
And some think a man saddled with all three negatives will do so in 2008?

What I find truly amazing is that this reality escapes Giuliani.  What is this man thinking?  Does he fancy that the average Republican voter is a Times Echo?  Talk about believing your own press clippings.

The only interesting aspect of the Giuliani coverage is why the media would press forward, seemingly oblivious to the man's lack of viability.  The obvious answer is that it's an alluring story, as Giuliani has a marquee name and a scintillating, romantic persona.  It's also possible some in the Media wish to secure a Hillary versus Rudy match-up, thereby ensuring that a liberal will take the oath of office in 2009.  Then there's the fact that press lunkheads live such an insular existence, surrounded by so many fellow travelers, that they start to view themselves as the true center.  They then come to believe they represent a fair cross-section of America.  My guess, though, is that the coverage is probably attributable to all of the above.

Anyway, I don't know what Giuliani's presidential "exploratory committee" told him a while back, but I could have provided the truth at a tenth the cost.  Mr. Mayor, you'd stand a better chance running as an independent; then you might at least be able to make a respectable showing.  But, really, you'd be best off devoting your resources to any PGA Tour ambitions your son may be nursing.  You miss left far too much to be a contender.

It's not whining, it was a friendly request. If you don't like em that's fine, we all get a turn in the voting booth come primary time. Just don't go for the low blow, Rudy is no goombah.

With all do respect, and I do respect you out of your admiration and support for Reagan, why do you have to be a smart ass all the time? I have tried to have honest discussions with you in the past about Rudy and it always delves into condescension and name calling. I believe we can debate and disagree civilly over the primary contest, were both on the same team in the end.

Uh, that's why I said "about a year" to the primaries.

Why am I "wasting my time bashing him"? I'm just getting the TRUTH out about him. If you consider telling people the truth to be bashing, then you're closer to liberal than you probably want to admit.

The funniest thing was when I made up some rudy & romney rino cards that stated their liberal positions in THEIR OWN WORDS, all the rudybots complained about it being "spam" on "every thread", even though I had put them up only on a few threads in the 24 hours since I made them. They HATE the fact that rudy can be exposed as the liberal he is so easily. They squeal like a stuck pig when people DARE expose their favorite rinos!

More and more is coming out about rudy. People don't know him and his positions. They only know personality now. More and more fact FACTS about rudy are coming out. About his positions, about his past. They're all true. And every time they come out, the rudybots get in a snit because it puts a dent in the pedestal they've built for him.

Just wait. I'm going to enjoy watching the this personality based "lead" for rudy to erode when people get to know the real LIBERAL rudy.

As far as flop sweat, it refers to when you're on stage. That would be the primaries, not nearly a year before they start. But you think you've come up with a clever quip and you're trying to use it as much as you can, aren't you?

"FLOP SWEAT" is an old theatre term and yes, I know exactly what it means.

The front loading of the primaries changes EVERYTHING; it'll be all over but the crying.

You sidestepped the question. If Rudy has NO CHANCE why spend hour after hour on a website raging against him?

Down deep your scared...you know it's his to lose so..FLOP SWEAT.

The pushing of a radical socialist--one who agrees on most issues with Hillary--in our Party is a lost cause now.

So seeing that their sugar daddies have given them more than enough money to sponsor and control the media over the past 35 years or so, who will Hillary's insurgents front-up for us next?

Do you think it might be a bit too early to get so solidly behind any candidate? Why not wait and see who all the candidates will be before making a selection?

Rudy's ship has left New York Harbor

Sure, but his big ship is already taking on water. He already has all the buzz and momentum he's going to get, based on his "America's Mayor" celebrity and those few particulars noted in the article. Everything else voters can learn about him can only bring him down.

I agree. I will vote for who ever the Repubs nominate. So why all the unbridled rage against the ex Mayor of NYCity?

I don't know. Why don't you ask someone who's displaying unbridled rage?

I'm completely undecided, except for one thing. I will not vote for McCain in the primaries.

As of now I'm praying for the best possible candidate to emerge.

"You sidestepped the question. If Rudy has NO CHANCE why spend hour after hour on a website raging against him?"

Check your prescription...eyeglass and otherwise. I'm not the one who said "no chance".

"Down deep your scared."

My scared what?

I'm not scared. I, and others with similar positions on this board, are intent on exposing him for what he is.

His support is based on personality and public image. There is no "there" there right now. Primary voters really don't have much of an idea where he stands on the issues that matter to them, because no debates have taken place and no real campaigning has begun. That will happen in time, and his support will erode.

Why do we spend time "raging against him"? I read and participate in these threads to gain and share information on the candidates, and to help prevent the bad ones from getting through to the nomination.

The question to you is, with 11+ months to the first primary, why are you throwing all your support behind the most liberal candidate in the field instead of trying to help more conservative candidates? Is it because in truth you actually are liberal yourself, and rudy represents your ideals - pro roe v wade, anti 2nd amendment, pro illegal immigration, etc???

You're welcome. WND has its quirks, but it certainly gets enough traffic to get the word out.

On objections to publishing such needed material, I haven't seen so many calls for censorship since watching radical feminists do so against family rights discussions.

Conservatives don't vote for liberals!

That might be true, but many of the pitchfork and torch crowd on FR these days are hardly conservatives. They're extremists. There's no other word for it. They are extreme in their viewpoints, extreme in their language, extreme in their emotions, extreme in their viciousness. They aren't conservatives, because they defame everything that is decent and honorable about conservatism. The only "values" they honor are scorn, hatred, and character assassination. These are the same people who said the most vile things about Pres. Bush in the run-up to the '04 re-election campaign. They are extremists -- the most vile elements of our culture, and I see no distinction between them and the extreme leftists.

""FLOP SWEAT" is an old theatre term and yes, I know exactly what it means."

Then you know it refers to when someone is dying on stage, not 10 months before the play begins. As the person is using it, it's ridiculous. The only time it would be apt is right before the primaries or after they start and rudy has an insurmountable lead.

Your request was downright silly and not deserving of a serious answer from me.

For the better part of the last six months I've attempted to engage Giuliani`s supporters in civil debate. Unlike some other anti-Rudy FReepers, I've stuck to the facts and not made it personal. IMO, Rudy`s supporters aren't interested in debating his liberal record and would rather ignore it. That is the height of arrogance. Frankly, at this point I'm not into wasting my time with the RudyBots. People who want to ignore Rudy`s big govt, pro-abort, pro-gay, pro-amnesty, global warming kookiness and anti-gun record will not get the right time of day from me.
