Don't think he was Tom Riddle's roommate. Hagrid was expelled in his third year. In Book 2, Riddle was a sixth year when Hagrid got the boot. Maybe not roommates, but in the same section of the school. Didn't the movie show them going downstairs to Hagrid's room. Slytherin has a dungeon, Gryffindor has a tower.

In the movie, Hagrid didn't have the spider in his dorm room. It must have just been an unused room.

That's why I thought Hagrid might have been a Hufflepuff, because their dorms are in the basement near the kitchen.
