I am amazed. Phil Gramm was all that I ever wanted in a President. He was a budget hawk with a strong supporter of national defense. He would have vigorously pushed SS and medicare reform. McCain has strayed too far from conservatism. I admire his stand on the Iraq War, but he was against Bush's tax cuts and pushed that stupid campaign finance reform.

Full confession here. In 1995-96 I was a big Gramm for President supporter, putting in a lot of volunteer hours for him. Too bad he ran such an inept campaign... 25 million dollars spent and he dropped out before the New Hampshire primary! The neatest explanation of this is that Phil is paying back McCain's endorsement of him in 1996.
