At one point, the choice weapon of the infantrymen was the bolt action 30-06. And they were quite effective in war; just ask the Germans. I guess that makes all the tens of thousands of bolt action hunting rifles 'terrorist weapons'.
What's truly ironic is that modern military assault rifles aren't actually designed to kill as many as possible as fast as possible; if that's what the military wanted, they made a bad choice. ARs are used because they are lightweight and reliable; their firepower is significantly less than that of most hunting rifles, but is still considered adequate for the job.
