I agree. Especially those who have committed financial or drug-dealing type crimes. Some of the drug dealers (the druglords, not their hired thugs) run their operation like a legitimate business and probably could apply those skills in a legal venture.

Especially, if that military job requires a security clearance.

I'm not an employer, but the answer is, it depends.
If I ran a mortgage company, I'd probably hire a guy with an assault conviction 12 years ago who has since earned a degree and has no other issues. I'd stay away from someone who had been convicted of embezzlement.

I would usually give a complete pass to a "felon" whose only crime was exercising his Second Amendment rights.
(I mean simply possessing a weapon, not shooting someone or killing someone in a non-self-defense manner)

You're lumping everyone into a single category. Do you realize that in some states, simply exercising your right to keep and bear arms is a "felony" even if you never aim it and pull the trigger? Do you dare lump that person in the same category as Jeffrey Dahmer?

People seem to miss that stupid things are "felonies" these days - having a gun, throwing ice out a window, peeing on the sidewalk...
