Minister quits in Anna Nicole row

News of the pictures sparked protests in the Bahamas

The immigration minister of the Bahamas has resigned over a row about his involvement with the late Playboy model and actress Anna Nicole Smith. Newspaper pictures of Shane Gibson and Anna Nicole Smith embracing each other had sparked calls for him to leave.

It was claimed that Mr Gibson had fast-tracked Smith's application for residency on the island.

Mr Gibson apologised for any embarrassment he may have caused the country but denied any wrong-doing.

'Sorry'

"I want to apologise to all persons who may in any way have been offended by anything that I have said, done or perceived to have said or done," Mr Gibson said on state television.

But Mr Gibson, who was pictured fully clothed hugging the former model and actress, denied that he had a sexual relationship with the 39-year-old.

Smith's application for residency on the island was based on the disputed ownership of a waterfront mansion in the Bahamas.

Mr Gibson denied that he had abused his ministerial office by speeding up the process to grant Smith residency, describing her as a family friend.

According to local newspaper The Bahama Journal, Mr Gibson's mother was looking after Smith's five-month-old daughter, Dannielynn, when she died.

The body of Smith, the widow of Texas oil tycoon J Howard Marshall II, was found in a Florida hotel room on 9 February.

The cause of her death, which has sparked a paternity row and custody battles, has yet to be determined.

That, like so many other possible fathers, remains to be proven ;)

I thought that the father might be the old Marshall guy if Anna saved "him" for later. At this point I would not be surprised if her son is the father.

The guy should have quit, or been removed by force if necessary. He was star struck and violated his own country's laws to grant ANS residency. The reason that the ownership of the house in the Bahamas is disputed is that ANS never bought it. She agreed to take over payments and never paid.

Bahamas law required her to own property worth at least $500,000 in order to obtain residency status.

This is a little off topic, but it occurred to me that the battle over where she is to be buried it a little hypocritical. Her friends claim she wanted to be buried near her son in the Bahamas, but she never considered his wishes when she buried him there. He didn't live there, or have friends there. He was only there to visit her. She treated his remains like a possession.

It seems to me that the only reason that she went there was to keep her baby away from her natural father, and that makes the baby a possession too. How tragic, and how selfish of her.

Maybe...but maybe she intended to live there forever and wanted to be able to go see her son's resting place. It was a hectic time for her, maybe she just wasn't thinking. Or maybe she didn't want his body brought back to the USA for some reason. Whatever her reason was it doesn't much matter now. I say bury her next to her son, she bought a plot so maybe she meant to be buried there. I doubt ANS really knew who the daddy was/is either... Prayers for that poor child and the hope a normal loving family takes her in , instead of this bunch who seem like morons to me. I don't think any of them ought to raise that little girl. (I am no ANS fan by any means either )

Perhaps he was buried there in order for the family to avoid the embarassment of a homicide investigation.

I was wondering about that too. I do think ANS's mother should just let her daughter be buried next to her son unless she plans to move him to TX too. This whole ANS story is getting on my nerves. I wonder what will happen if there is no matching DNA to any of the men? I don't think ANS's mother did such a good job with her and she was also raised by a relative at times too. If ANS hated TX then why bury her there? Just use the plot they have and bury her already. I just pray none of these people get this poor child. Maybe somehow somebody that is normal and not after the "money" will take her and she will be loved for herself and lead a normal life. IMO that would be best.
