Theres one thing that bothers me about Mr. Hunter and all other candidates that propose building a fence. I think it is BS. Why spend millions to build a fence and millions to maintain it when the real answer is to stop the jobs for illegals. Why not fine businesses who hire illegals. I do not believe we can STOP illegal aliens short of drying up the jobs. It seems perfectly obvious to me. I guess the conservative in me would rather see a meaningful solution rather than throwing my hard earned tax dollars at a solution that is not a solution.

Those are good points and good ideas. I have always believed that the way to eliminate unauthorized employment of illegals is to make the fines for employing them high enough to deter employers from taking that risk. Now sometimes employers will be snookered by exceptionally well prepared (but fraudulent) documents, but in many cases it is a 'wink and a nod' which allows illegals to work for employers who are not concerned about obeying the law any more than the illegals are.

Having said that, I think that building a barrier between the United States and Mexico has more value as a national security measure, with inhibiting illegal immigration as a secondary benefit.

It has been proven that our southern border remains porous, that it is possible for illegals of Middle Eastern descent to get into the United States due to their similar pigmentation with Mexicans, and there is nothing racist about that, it is a simple statement of fact.

If al Qaeda was to move a nuclear device into the U.S., you can bet that our southern border would be near (if not at) the top of their list for preferred entry points.

For that reason alone, our border with Mexico should be sealed, access points should be tightly controlled, and deadly force should be authorized for ANYONE sneaking across the damn border, no exceptions. If we apply the same standards to the integrity of our southern border as we apply to nuclear weapon facilities and installations, you can be sure there will not be very many (if any) breaches of security.

But you are correct, we need to hold employers responsible for any illegals they have in their employ, and the best way to deter that sort of nonsense is to levy *gigantic* fines.

Except that Ahnold wants to give health care to illegals. And illegals get education and other bennies as well.

Like all invasions, this needs to be fought in depth. A fence is just the first line. But it is an integral part of multiple lines of defense.

Plateau seems to be an honest new signup to FR. I'd hope we can engage him/her in a reasonable manner. As a Fox Nooz poll revealed, a lot of people don't know the details about the various candidates. Let's share what we know with those willing to listen, engage and debate in an honest manner.

After all, a few old-timers have already sold out. Sign up date, apparently, is no longer a valid indicator of veracity.

Building the fence is only part of the solution. Rounding up illegal aliens, deterring future lawbreaking, fining employers, etc. are only a matter of having the political fortitude, and Duncan Hunter has it and intends to clean up this issue for national security reasons.
