Rep. Duncan Hunter on Pundit Review Radio (excellent 30 minute audio interview)
Pundit Review ^ | Monday February 19th, 2008 | Kevin

Posted on 02/19/2007 7:57:07 AM PST by ajolympian2004

Last night we welcomed Congressman Duncan Hunter, (R-CA), to Pundit Review Radio. Rep. Hunter is one of the leading conservative candidates running for President.

Rep. Hunter was incredibly generous with his time, spending more than 30 minutes with us discussing a wide range of topics. Of course, we asked him about the anti-surge, non-binding resolution that was passed this weekend. He had some pointed criticism of his colleagues, and questioned how much they understood about the surge, from a tactical level. According to the Rep. Hunter, it is all about politics, and has little to do with the surge itself.

We also talked about immigration, as Hunter has one of the toughest stances on this issue in Congress. He spoke of the fence that runs along the San Diego border and how effective it has been. We also asked him what should be done about the Border Agents who have been thrown in jail for a dozen years for shooting a drug smuggler. We took some great calls from WRKO listeners who asked what separated Hunter from the leaders in the GOP race, like McCain, Rudy and Romney.

My favorite part of the interview was when Rep. Hunter opened up about his own family, he talked eloquently about his father and how the call to military service was passed to him, and now, on to his son. Speaking of his son, Congressman Hunter told a great story about his son’s decision to join the military on 9-11, it is incredibly inspirational.

This guy is solid and deserves strong consideration for your vote for president in the Republican primaries. To learn more about his campaign, click here. We look forward to having him back on Pundit Review Radio as the campaign heats up in the coming weeks.

This interview is also available for download at iTunes and Podcast Alley.

It doesn't make sense; Rudy can hire the best. Either they don't know any better than to put stronger people here (which I doubt) or they're trying a series of talking points to see which ones fly long enough to get past the general public.

The b-teamer lasted two days. Had all the subtlety of a fart in a Prius.

Plateau seems to be an honest new signup to FR. I'd hope we can engage him/her in a reasonable manner. As a Fox Nooz poll revealed, a lot of people don't know the details about the various candidates. Let's share what we know with those willing to listen, engage and debate in an honest manner.

After all, a few old-timers have already sold out. Sign up date, apparently, is no longer a valid indicator of veracity.

Sounds like unsubstantiated rumor so far. But if there's something there, I'm sure we'll hear about it.

Building the fence is only part of the solution. Rounding up illegal aliens, deterring future lawbreaking, fining employers, etc. are only a matter of having the political fortitude, and Duncan Hunter has it and intends to clean up this issue for national security reasons.

I have heard people complain that it doesn't matter who they vote for, since there is little difference in the parties. Hunter will put that issue to the test. He will be clear in his stand, and the choice will be clear.

No, it means that some folks who pretended to be conservatives all these years sold out for the Rudy campaign. Which I would not have that much of an issue with, but they subsequently turned around and trash the very conservative values they pretended to support all this time.

I think you're on the money Dirtboy, and again to Plateau?

Sorry if your welcome (from me anyway) wasn't all that cordial. You (Plateau) had asked about identifying trolls, and if you look up the profile for 'admin moderator'

http://www.freerepublic.com/~adminmoderator/

There is more information on past trolling here on FR.

On the subject of candidates, it's true that many people don't know much about who is running or who is likely to run, but keep in mind that we are approximately an entire year away from the first primaries, let alone the general election. A LOT can happen to affect the race between now and then, both to the candidates individually, and in world events yet to unfold. On this thread, we support Duncan Hunter, but even the Congressman would be the first to agree that it's a long way to January 20, 2009 when someone puts their hand on the Bible (GOD forbid it's a Quran!) and says "I, ________ do solemnly swear..."

I'd invite you over for my wife's FINE Mexican cooking, but you live on the other coast.

Ask Okie01. I had to move from Pennsylvania, marry an Apache who knows how to make great tacos and green chile, and drag her against her will back to Pennsylvania.

Yes, Duncan Hunter does get it. He walks the walk, and has been walking the walk for years.

Hunter didn't have to flip flop, because he ALWAYS WAS A CONSERVATIVE.

Actually, she loves it here in PA (Apaches like rain, it turns out). And I'm now the second-best Mexican cook in PA (kinda like the groundhog that is the spokespig for the PA lottery). She's still the best Mexican cook in the state, bar none.

Now if I could just get decent BBQ here. Oh, well, one out of two ain't bad.

Posting private FReepmail on forum is a no-no; and in my opinion unethical.

Looks like that poster is history by now anyway.

The sender was a troll, and I correctly identified him as such. What he sent was by no means of a truly personal nature, it was typical trolling behavior, sent in a PM.

There is nothing unethical about outing trolls, as they have no ethics in the first place.

Your opinion is noted. Have a nice day.

That's Hunter for you! He's the best and the GOP would be wise to get behind a solid man like him.

Just some background info on Hunter and his outspoken nature to go where not many(I don't think any) Republicans go with their spineless nature.

Hunter on Abu Ghraib(courtesyhttp://www.larouchepub.com/other/2004/3128goss_hunter_block.html : )
Probably the single loudest obstructionist voice in the House of Representatives in support of the Cheneyac "Beastman" policy in Iraq has been Armed Services Committee chairman Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.). Hunter has been able to use his position to block any meaningful inquiry into the Abu Ghraib prison scandal and at every public opportunity, has railed against those who are demanding such an investigation. He even went after his GOP counterpart in the Senate, John Warner (Va.), for holding three hearings in two weeks on the scandal, practically accusing Warner of treason.

Under great public pressure, Hunter has since held one hearing, for part of one day, and has no intention of having any more. During debate on the Fiscal Year 2005 Defense Authorization bill, on May 19, Hunter declared, "We have had enormous publicity the last number of days about the mess at Abu Ghraib. I estimated we have probably devoted as much media attention to that mess involving now, as identified, some seven personnel, as we did to the Normandy invasion. And that is an imbalance. It is time to refocus." What did he want to refocus on? "The 135,000 great personnel doing their job in Iraq."

On June 14, when the committee took up a resolution of inquiry sponsored by some 40 Democrats, demanding the Pentagon be more forthcoming with documents relating to the prison scandal, Hunter placed the 6,000 pages of the report on the abuse and torture of prisoners filed by U.S. Army General Anthony Taguba (the Taguba Report) on a table at the head of the hearing room and railed at the Democrats, "Isn't that enough for you?"

Hunter on Guantanamo(courtesy http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20050613-033125-4935r.htm:)

California Republican Duncan Hunter held a press conference to discuss the treatment of detainees at the island jail, and spent his opening statement going over a daily menu for prisoners that included oven-fried chicken and fresh fruit.

"This is what Osama bin Laden's bodyguards will eat several times a week. Lemon chicken, rice, broccoli, carrots, bread and two types of fruit," Hunter said, inviting a reporter to come eat with him.

Hunter was digging himself out of small hole he got into over the weekend when he said on a news program that the White House is divided over whether to close the jail.

"I think they've come to the conclusion, some members of the White House have come to the conclusion that the legend now, that the legend is different than the fact, and when that's the case you go with the legend that somehow Guantanamo has been a place of abuse and you close it down and you shorten the stories, you shorten the heated debate and you get it off the table and you move on," he said.
