These are foks who simply do not understand the ultra-sardonic absurdist/sarcastic humor that younger, hipper viewers (like the ones who watch John Stewart's show) breathe like air.

We understand it. We just don't find it funny. Or intelligent. We find it boorish and shallow.

Well, Alia clearly doesn't understand it.

And actually it is very funny, and very intelligent. IowaHawk is widely recognized as one of the conservative blogosphere's finest parodists. Even the lefty Kos types recognize this. They hate IowaHawk's guts because he skewers them so skillfully. Same deal with John Stewart and that other guy (Coburn?)-- very funny, very intelligent stuff, even if it's left of center.

But at the same time I do recognize that this is all in the eye of the beholder. Different strokes for different folks and all that. The guys who are writing this new Fox show recognize this too. They've chosen to write the show so that it appeals to Mom and Pop, and as a result the show is kind of hamfisted. Naturally Mom and Pop don't see it as hamfisted -- to them it's just funny -- but it's hamfisted to everyone else.

Such is life I guess. We're just going to have to wait until someone produces a conservative comedy tailored to the right demographic (the market will determine the timing) before we're treated to razor sharp, news-hour style lib-baiting on TV.
