That's so condescending. Most Americans know about the issue and probably have been impacted by it in one way or another. It's just that some of them may put other issues first. Saying they don't understand sound so liberal. Sheesh!
Sorry, but those who oppose controlling our borders and cracking down on illegal aliens have usurped the lexicon to muddy the issue. Illegal aliens become undocumented workers. They call those who want to secure our borders nativists and anti-immigrant. Most Americans have little knowledge of the breadth and extent of the problem to make an informed decision on immigration policy.
Legal immigration policy that now admits a million immigrants must also be reviewed. Most Americans have no idea what chain migration is. Or what an H1B visa is? Or how many illegal aliens are in the US. Or what is in the Senate bill on comprehensive immigration reform and what impact it will have on legal immigration numbers.
You have to make an effort to educate yourself about immigration, entitlement reform, etc. Most Americans don't know about these issues, which is why the liberals can demagog and lie about them. It is the responsibility of elected leaders to educate their constituencies if they want support for their policy positions. And yet, we are bombarded by polls that supposedly reflect the will of the American people. Unfortunately, most of the people are ill-informed and not knowledgeable about key issues affecting their lives and future.
