I don't wish to speak ill of these people... I do and I will...these people are completely and utterly selfish thrill-seekers.
I wonder if they even gave a second thought that other people may die while attempting to rescue their sorry asses?
I doubt it.

In reference to my post about banning climbs in the winter it does not matter what the forecast is in winter.
The weather changes so quickly and unpredictably on these mountains a forecast might be good for two hours. They create their own weather.
Enough is enough or do we have to kill a military air crew or a rescuer first? There are 6 months of great climbing weather here every year and that is when people should climb.
I love mountaineering and it will never be without risks but I can compromise my desire to climb with the safety of those who have to come get me.

"Watt said he supports a legislative bill proposed by Sen. John Lim that would require mountaineers to carry the electronic locators." I read an article this morning that said a lot of mountaineers oppose that bill. They want it strictly voluntary. To PP loosely, they said it adds to the thrill by not wearing one.

I don't see the point of this reckless behavior.

It will never be risk free but the odds are pretty good for the 6 month window.
We had to turn back in the summer of 03 on Ranier for bad weather.

they said it adds to the thrill by not wearing one. However they get their thrills is fine with me but they should be told, "no locator, no rescue effort if in trouble." Maybe that would add to their thrill. :-)

Yes, exactly. Knowing that your partner has aids adds to the orgasm they say. Apparently the same mentality.

I wonder if they get a thrill out of knowing that other people will risk their lives for them also?
I think the skydivers have it about right : )

My wife just told me she saw on a local broadcast out of Portland (Channel 8) that the three are off the mountain and loaded into an ambulance along with the dog. They're all Okay.

The successful rescue gave a dramatic demonstration of the value of radio locator beacons that can be carried by climbers. Three climbers who went missing in December did not carry a beacon. One was found dead and two others have not been found and are presumed to have died.I guess we won't have to argue about the value of those radio locators anymore.

That's for sure. 3 alive vs 3 dead, it speaks well for locators.
