Trying to read too much into any 2008 poll at this point, especially with respect to horserace numbers, is somewhat silly and a waste of time. But a recent FOX News poll does have some interesting tidbits in the internals asking about voters' general impressions on issues.
Are you more who are more or less likely to support a candidate who is pro-choice on the issue of abortion? Republicans only: More likely 22 percent (a lot more likely 12 percent, somewhat more likely 10 percent). Less likely 46 percent (a lot less likely 36 percent, somewhat less likely 10 percent). Not a major factor 30 percent. Are you more who are more or less likely to support a candidate who supports civil unions for gays and lesbians? Republicans only: More likely 8 percent (a lot more likely 5 percent, somewhat more likely 3 percent). Less likely 50 percent (a lot less likely 39 percent, somewhat less likely 11 percent). Not a major factor 38 percent. [snip]
The biggest red flag for Giuliani has to be that only 42 percent of Republicans surveyed correctly identified him as pro-choice. Twenty-one percent of Republican voters have it wrong and think Giuliani is pro-life, and another 36 percent of Republicans don't have a clue what his position on abortion. In other words, nearly six out of 10 registered Republican voters have yet to learn something about Giuliani which, we can infer from the first question on abortion, will make close to half of them either "somewhat" less likely or "a lot" less likely to vote for him. There's no doubt the same holds true of his position on civil unions for gays, and the Second Amendment as well.Running the Republican Numbers on Rudy

You have always been so reasonable. I can't believe you would cast a vote that would put Her Heinous in the White House.
He certainly is opposed to the majority of what Republicans and the Party Platform stand for:

He appears to be right. Look how many he's managed to fool. I see them on nearly every thread, proclaiming Guiliani to be the next Ronald Reagan. Are they really that stupid, or are they just hoping the rest of us are?
Most likely Newt will evaluate the numbers and not run. He will support Rudy.
He signed legislation as gov. of California which he later stated was one of the most regrettable things he had ever done.
Wasn't Reagan for abortion before he was against it?
Reagan was never "for abortion". He was a Christian for all of his life.
It's time to back a candidate that will again fight the good fight--not surrender to the culture of death.
That's not Rudy.
Bush was againt abortion...what the hell did he do? This IS NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE OF OUR TIME. What is wrong with you people?
I can't, however, agree with them that the WoT is SO important, that we can afford to give a liberal RINO a pass to the presidency.
RINO-rudy's support of gun-control (a Constitutional issue) and abortion (as much a MORAL issue as a religious one) is a deal killer for me, and MANY like me.
With these things on the table, I'm not focusing on issues like gay marriage (though I think the traditional definition and application should remain between a man and a woman), and I'm certainly not worried about gambling at this point.
I think we can find a real, Conservative (with a capitol "C") that will be tough on the WoT, AND believe in, and support and defend our CORE issues.
Why settle for a RINO when we can have the real deal?
I'd take Hunter, Pence, Huckabee, Tancredo, Newt, or most anyone else over ANY of the three supposedly in front now.
Not sure what you mean but if it means Guiliani gets the nomination, then we only have the choice of Guiliani or Hillary. At that point, I'll take Guiliani but not until then.
I wish people on my side of the debate would stop making this argument. Asking people to vote for candidates they genuinely can't support is immoral.
Knows.
The Human Life Amendment is in the Republican Party Platform, you moron. Get with the program or get out. You're getting in the way and you bother those Republicans who actually support the ideas enscribed in the platform. Just because you want to declare surrender on one of the core values of the Republican Party, doesn't mean the rest of us want to cooperate with or even tolerate your cut and run crap.
Rudy is just one of the candidates whom I like. I like him, Romney and Sanford. And I think it's absolutely crucial that IF he gets the nomination, people who care about the WOT get out and VOTE for him!
Who has killed more Americans? Terrorists or abortionists?
President Bush
Right now, it's a popularity, name recognition contest. Naturally, the big money guys want to put their money behind the winner but this is not a sprint, it's a long distance run and every serious candidate has a research and publicity team who will make sure that everything that can be learned about a primary opponent, will be out in the open at least "leaked to the press."
Pence, Tancredo and Newt are good, but I don't know how strong they will be in the general election. Hunter is weak on fiscal issues and trade, and Huckabee is a full-blown tax-raising cigarette-hating RINO. But I will vote for anyone who favors the WOT.
As for deal-killers, what would you do if the election was between these two candidates?
A conservative who is pro-choice (and conservative on all other issues)
A liberal who is prolife (and liberal on all other issues).
I would vote for the conservative.
