Thanks that was a great article. I often wonder what I would do. My son is in the army.

Would he desert? Would I have to kill my own son, or men just like him? Good God, I hope we never come to that!!!

Not only do we have enough firepower in my home to arm most of my neighborhood, but we also have bows and enough arrows to take on a small army. We are practiced with our bows, and they make a great stealth weapon.

The issue that I am concerned about is not necessarily firepower, but the army has superb technology for surveillance. They flat out have the upper hand there. Not that I'm currently planning an insurrection or anything. (that's for the military just in case they monitor this site) : D

I took up bowhunting several years ago. It is amazing how easy it is to become accurate with today's compound bows if you know how to properly set them up. Of course I don't have the explosive points like in Rambo II, so I don't know how much good they will do when the stuff hits the fan. But I know that I can get protein silently. :)

I take my rifles down every time I shoot so blued or stainless makes no difference ... I like the darker barrel anyway, less reflection .....

As a public we are so underarmed against a government that could become fascist, that even assault weapons would be largely ineffective against the military weapons of today.

"even assault weapons"?

Sounds like you've bought in to the clinton/brady bunch line that "assault weapons" are so much more deadly than other SEMI-automatic firearms are (WRONG) and more powerful (WRONG) that they are a "force" to be reckoned with.

Believe me, as a former Marine, that IF and when our government oversteps its bounds in a major way, MUCH of our military will be on OUR, the citizens, side. Unlawful orders do NOT have to be followed.

Additionally, we could, if we had to, wage an insurgency with what we have now, and with improvised weapons and captured weapons as time went on.

I believe we would prevail against a tyrannical government, BUT...

much of that confidence hinges on FIERCLY protecting and defending our 2nd Amendment from any and all attacks (no matter how "reasonable" and "sensible" the left-wing gun-grabbing demonRATS and RINOs (like RINO-rudy) make their arguments SEEM.

We also need to keep up a constant fight to get current, useless gun laws, aimed by gun-grabbers at law-abiding citizens, REMOVED from the books PERMANENTLY.

I am glad to see that the outrage against zumbo appears to have been substantial enough to get his a** in trouble with those that provide a paycheck to him.

Goofballs like this from within are just as bad, maybe worse, than those from without.

So now that this dustup is settling, we ask for dark underlying motivations. What if this wasn't just a brainfart on Zumbo's part ? Two alternatives come to my mind:

1. he was trying to provoke exactly the response he got. Good man. Why would he want to do that ? What purpose is served by producing evidence of how the shooting public feels about our right to bear whatever arms we choose ? This leads to:

2. the rich comfortable mainstream of the US shooting community (I'm thinking of fellas with $2000 trap guns, you can think of the Lexus-and-canned-hunts crowd) including their representatives within the NRA leadership are having incontinence problems at the prospect of a double-barreled Democratic Congress running amuck and the three witches Feinstein Pelosi and Clinton coming in the night to squeeze their balls while plundering their gun safes.

Well, don't worry, men, we'll protect you. You may be the same kind of spineless riffraff that's facilitated oppression throughout human history, but you should have the same freedom to exercise your unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness at more than 2500 fps that we do. I hear drycleaning is best for soiled worsted wool, and urine comes out of Italian leather if you dry it quickly, in case you need advice in that area.

I note that said double-barreled Dem Congress has just emitted its first, easy-to-anticipate yelp in this year's round of the Great Attempt to Ban Satanic Assault Weapons, HR1022 sponsored by that poor creature Carolyn McCarthy. While the text is not available yet, we do ask ourselves whether the "leadership" of the US shooting community is mustering their usual fortitude and weighing the costs and benefits of reaching some accomodation with the gun banners which let them keep their Sunday toys and get rid of those crazies with milspec weapons who make them kind of nervous anyway. They talk about guns being for overthrowing the established order, but since the leadership is firmly entrenched in the established order, does that mean them, too ? Woo hoo, hold on there we might have to rethink this.

Was the Zumbo post a float of a position of retrenchment to the redoubt in the face of fearsome Democratic aggression ? We can't do any better...

It seems like the mainstream gun culture is greatly concerned with its ability to get it up, as evinced by the number of ads for erectile dysfunction curatives in its publications. Maybe if they were less worried about getting it up and more concerned with identifying a course of appropriate, and principled, action, designed first not to maintain membership headcount and revenue but to protect the firearms-related interests of all US citizens, they might be more effective in dealing with the antigun forces. We'll be waiting for you to join us if you get to that point, fellas.

when the fascists take over and steal our guns, we should send them a message and build some guillotines.

Has anyone stopped to realize that mowing down a prairie dog or coyote with an automatic weapon is just giving ammunition to anti-hunters? Seriously, if you can't aim well enough to take down an animal with 1 or 2 shots- or firing repetitiously gives you a rise- mabe you should take up paintball-my kids love it! I support Jim Zumbos opinions and comments. For your treatment of him - I will no longer support Remington with purchases of firearms, ammo., clothing, or anything else that bares the Remington name. I will also share this with all who will listen.

Welcome to FreeRepublic! I'm guessing you'd be more at home perusing a liberal forum.

Your misuse of the term "automatic weapon" is just giving ammunition to anti-hunters!

A little education for you, an M-16 assault weapon would be an automatic weapon, that is NOT the weapon we are discussing. The AR-15 is a single shot weapon, every time you pull the trigger it shoots a single shot.

However, you've convinced me! But I'll take it a step further, if you can't sit waiting in a tree with a knife clenched in your teeth waiting for a dear to walk by, you're giving the anti-hunters ammo...

/S

Agreed Zumbo lost the last of his creditability with this article.

About 15 years ago I bought one of his books, he was promoting lousy scopes for elk hunting.

Zumbo, for sale if the price is right.
