BAGHDAD, Iraq — Two car bombs exploded in an outdoor market in Baghdad on Sunday, killing at least 56 people and injuring scores in the deadliest attack since U.S. and Iraqi forces began a major security push around the capital last week.

The twin blasts tore through the open-air market in the mostly Shiite district of New Baghdad. The death toll was reported by police and ambulance service officials on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media.

At least 127 people were injured, said a police official.

This is the first large scale attack in Bagdhad in several days. Let's hope we can come down on the perps like a ton of bricks this time.

This is the first large scale attack in Bagdhad in several days.

And was pridicted by John Mcain, Joe Liberman, Mark Levin and others...

John Mcain and others were correct when the said that the democrats vote against the reinforcement of the troops would only encourage the terrorists. This is clear since violence had recently dropped by 80% in Baghdad. It would be too much of a coincidence for there to be such a spike in violence so soon after that vote. Joe Lieberman said the same and others including Mark Levin who said friday:

"Today the democrat party takes full responsibility for any failure not only in this latest strategy for sending reinforcement to our troops but in Iraq generally. The leaders of the democrat party have worked for years for this day. They have worked to hurt the morale of our armed forces, to drive down public support for the war, to deny our troops the support they need and to pull our troops from the battlefield before the war is won.

If we lose the democrats are directly responsible. If there is a bloodbath as there surely will be now, the democrats are responsible. If Iran expands its reach into Iraq and threatens their Arab neighbors and Israel, the democrats are responsible. From this day forward the democrats are responsible for the consequences of their actions. No longer will they get a free ride. No longer can they pretend to support our troops. No longer can they pretend to stand for human rights and against genocide. If there is blood and there will be, it's blood on their hands.

Today is the day the democrats take responsibility for their actions and the consequences that follow."

I suppose it's not too late for Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Obama and the other democrats to come out and make a public statement. They really should apologise to our troops and to the American people for these recent losses after such a drop in violence in Iraq before the weekend.

It seems like alot of these bombings happen lately at supermarkets or grocery stores. It makes you think about how lucky we are that we can go to the grocery store and a suicide bomber is the farthest thing from our minds. Hopefully the people of Iraq and the "iraqi leadership" will step-up because I think this surge is the "last straw".

These car bombs are exploded by remote control...not necessarily by suicide recruits. Aren't they?

These are the "brave warriors" to whom our Congress gives the mantel of "victors", this is who they run from?

We are surrendering to those who would murder women and children in the marketplace? To those who refuse to wear a uniform and meet on the battlefield, but instead blow to bits the bodies of innocents out shopping?

God help us if we give in to this immoral blackmail.

Possibly until they kill each other and all are dead.

They truly are nothing more than desert barbarians. A band of thieves and murderers sick with blood lust and a desire to destroy.

What an embarrassment to humanity these religious fanatics are.

That raises an interesting point. We Conservatives are so critical of those who aren't willing to stand up and fight, but at the same time we are giving in to the Liberals and supporting people like McCain and Rudy who aren't willing to stand up and fight for conservatism.

Yikes! I hadn't heard any support for McCain on FR?

As far as Rudy, Duncan, Newt, Romney, it's way to early to tell who will win FR's support, I'm looking forward to the debates.

And I'm going with who is most ruthless SOB to our enemies foreign and domestic!

I missed the entire debate and have been generally news deprived for the past few weeks (does wonders for the ole blood pressure) ... but would like to know if even ONE Democrat or "Republican*" who argued FOR the resolution in either Chamber said that those voting Aye would take responsibility for any failure(s) in Iraq in light of their opposing the plan of the Commander in Chief and his generals?

* including my "Republican" Senator and Congressman :(

I would like to know why one thing doesn't come up in the debate over Iraq. Does the left remember Mogadishu? Isn't leaving in the middle of the fight what emboldened Bin Laden in the first place? I seem to recall him referring to the U.S. as a paper tiger. It appears that the left is not only trying to ensure failure in Iraq, I believe that they are hoping for it.

While there isn't a lot of support for McCain, there is some. Same goes for Rudy.

Al Qaeda figures as long as our media continues wringing their hands and producing smoking pictures of carnage with body counts, they can intimidate our spineless politicians and Liberals and we'll cut and run.

They may be right. It's working well so far.

McCain or Rudy will be ruthless and unrelenting toward the terrorists, that's enough for either of them to get my vote against a Hillary, Obama, Edwards presidency...cause none of those three sure as shooting won't.

If anyone refuses to vote for McCain or Rudy because they're not conservative enough, and therefore, allow a democrat to take office, they are just as dangerous, irresponsible, and self-centeredly selfish as what the democrats are doing now! JMO.

As I have said before, I want someone who will be ruthless and unrelenting towards all of our enemies, both foreign and domestic. I consider anyone who wants to take away my constitutional rights, such as McCain and Guiliani, to be part of the problem.

There is no real difference between liberal Republicans and liberal Democrats. If the GOP can't muster a candidate better than those two, it is already dead and a third party is the only choice.
