###### Chicago Tribune is upset with FNC's "Red Eye".
Thanks anita. As usual, you always find things I've missed during the week.
Thanks, Anita. Once again, your observations and research is eye opening. This particular one on FNC is huge and makes me question the decision makers at FNC. Not seeing the forrest for the trees comes to mind, or is it more sinister, such as a liberal mole in charge? A 30% loss is HUGE!
Morning, Rod .. hi anita ... thanks for the updates. FYI I didn't see any mention of Col. Allard in these links .. but I found it ..:

Allard:
What Relationship Is Allard "Severing?"
"NBC sinks too low for this talking head" is the headline on Ken Allard's latest column for the San Antonio Express-News.
Apparently disgusted by what he calls "the network's precipitous retreat from journalistic and ethical standards," he declares: "With great reluctance and best wishes to my former colleagues, with this column I am severing my 10-year relationship with NBC News."
Except -- he's never had a formal relationship with NBC News! All his work has been on an appearance-by-appearance basis. "Mr. Allard is not under contract to NBC and hasn't appeared on our air in nearly a year," an NBC spokesperson said this afternoon. "In truth, there's really nothing to sever."

"The Last One They Took From Us Was Paula Zahn, & Look Where She Went"
Today's Page Six emphasizes Fox's side of the Kiran Chetry story. It says "fast-sinking, second-place CNN picked up top-rated Fox's crumbs" by signing Chetry as a substitute anchor and correspondent.
At the end of the item, a Fox insider says: "Let's see what happens. Remember, the last one they took from us was Paula Zahn, and look where she went."
An e-mailer notes that "there's a history of FNC hastily firing and then absolutely trashing any talent who talk to CNN. Remember Paula Zahn? When Ailes learned she was talking with CNN, he fired her immediately, leading to Zahn being on CNN six months earlier than expected..."

Tribune Sues FNC For Use Of "Red Eye"
Chicago Tribune Co. is suing FNC for trademark infringement over its new show Red Eye. Crain's reports: "In its February 14 complaint, Tribune says its five-year-old daily RedEye tabloid edition and the Fox show 'contain nearly identical content' and 'viewers are quite likely to assume that Fox and the RedEye products owned by Tribune are collaborating, thereby causing confusion.'"
Red Eye premiered on FNC two weeks ago. The network admits that it didn't run a trademark search before naming the show.
A hearing is set for Feb. 26. FOXNews.com no longer calls the late-night show Red Eye; instead, it's titled "Greg Gutfeld's Show."

BTW, I LOVE the Mom, who make phone calls to her son, the host of Red Eye. She is just hysterically funny ... kinda like Gracie Allen.

"Wipe The Drool Off Your Mouths!"
Half an hour into her first broadcast, FNC's Greg Kelly introduced Courtney Friel this way: "Here's the superstar, Courtney Friel. Journalist. Could be a model."
"Could be," Kelly Wright added.
Janice Dean noticed their fawning: "You guys have to wipe the drool off your mouths," she remarked.
She'll be back on Fox & Friends tomorrow morning...

CNN's One-Hour Deal With Chetry
CNN and Kiran Chetry have been flirting with each other for years.
"I felt she would be a good person to have in the mix, but I also thought there's no chance of her becoming available unless extraordinary circumstances intervened," Jon Klein tells The Hollywood Reporter.
Speaking of extraordinary circumstances...
"I couldn't believe that this was dropping into my lap," Klein says. After conferring with Jim Walton and Joel Cheatwood, THR says "the deal was done with a verbal agreement less than an hour later."
"I've never been involved in anything like this in 30 years in this business," Klein says...

Good riddance, Kiran.
That is just so idiotic. The term "red eye" has referred, for years, to late night events because that's what the late flights, particularly from west coast to east coast, have been called. For a newspaper to sue a television channel over a name that the newspaper ripped off from the airline industry is asinine. Oh, and the Tribune had trademarked the name, but only for a newspaper, not a TV show or anything else.
And the analogy the newspaper columnist tries to draw
You might recall that when Fox News announced it would be calling its new program "Red Eye," this column wondered how it would feel if Tribune launched a "Hannity & Colmes" edition.
stretches credulity. To even remotely come close Fox would have to call their show "Chicago Tribune's Red Eye." What will they sue over next? A morning show with the words "morning" in it? They're morons at the Tribune. Truly morons.
I have a friend who is a senior executive at a major airline. I think I'll suggest he has his company launch a suit against the Tribune for infringement. Better yet, I have another friend at Boeing. Since "red eye" originally referred to airplane flights they may have the original rights.
Of course, I have filed for a patent on zero and one. Once I get that I'll sue everyone that has ever done anything with a computer. Bwhahahahahahahaha!
I heard Chris Wallace on Mike Gallagher's radio show last Friday...he mentioned then that the Fox Sunday Show was going to be making changes...
Unfortunately, since HE was the one delivering the news..I am assuming that the ONE change they need to make....replacing HIM, they aren't doing...sigh
