"Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He was the Creator, He is our Savior, and He will be our Judge. Under the direction of our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ created the earth (John 1:10; Hebrews 1:2).
"When Jesus lived on the earth (approximately 2,000 years ago), He led a perfect life. He taught by word and example how people should live in love of God and others.
"Through His suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane and by giving His life on the crossthat is, by performing the AtonementJesus Christ saves us from our sins (1 Peter 2:21) as we follow Him. Because of the Atonement, you can be forgiven of your sins when you sincerely repent (Book of Mormon, Mosiah 26:30).
"Through His Resurrection, Jesus Christ saved us from death. Because He overcame death, we will all be given the gift of resurrection (Acts 24:15; 1 Corinthians 15:22). When life on this earth is over, Jesus Christ will be the final Judge (Acts 17:31; John 5:2122; Acts 10:42)."
I can find nothing exceptionable in this, can you? I don't agree with other aspects of the LDS faith--for instance, the idea that Jesus came to America to preach after His death and resurrection--but what the heck. That doesn't alter their basic identity as Christian believers.
It's very difficult to understand how a man who believes these fundamental tenets of Christianity could be worse as a candidate than a man who has supported gay marriage, gun control, and partial-birth abortion.
1. Abr. 3: 3-4, 9, 16 3 And the Lord said unto me: These are the governing ones; and the name of the great one is aKolob, because it is near unto me, for I am the Lord thy God: I have set this one to govern all those which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest. 4 And the Lord said unto me, by the Urim and Thummim, that Kolob was after the manner of the Lord, according to its atimes and seasons in the revolutions thereof; that one revolution was a b day unto the Lord, after his manner of reckoning, it being one thousand c years according to the time appointed unto that whereon thou standest. This is the reckoning of the Lords d time, according to the reckoning of Kolob. 9 And thus there shall be the reckoning of the time of one a planet above another, until thou come nigh unto Kolob, which Kolob is after the reckoning of the Lords time; which Kolob is set nigh unto the throne of God, to govern all those planets which belong to the same border as that upon which thou standest. 16 If a two things exist, and there be one above the other, there shall be greater things above them; therefore b Kolob is the greatest of all the Kokaubeam that thou hast seen, because it is nearest unto me. 2. Abr. 5: 13 13 But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the time that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die. Now I, Abraham, saw that it was after the Lords a time, which was after the time of b Kolob; for as yet the Gods had not appointed unto Adam his reckoning.
