One at a time!

McCain/Kerry F the POWS/MIAS

http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnkerry.com/page2.html

In a Nov. 21, 1993 column, Schanberg wrote, "Highly credible information has been surfacing in recent days which indicates that the headlines you have been reading about a 'breakthrough' in Hanoi's cooperation on the POW/MIA issue are part of a carefully scripted performance. The apparent purpose is to move toward normalization of relations with Hanoi.

"Sen. John F. Kerry, chairman of the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, is one of the key figures pushing for normalization. Kerry is currently on a visit to Vietnam where he has been doing two things:
(1) praising the Vietnamese effusively for granting access to their war archives and
(2) telling the press that there's no believable evidence to back up the stories of live POWs still being held.
"Ironically, that very kind of live-POW evidence has been brought to Kerry's own committee on a regular basis over the past year, and he has repeatedly sought to impeach its value.

Moreover, Kerry and his allies on the committee - such as Sens. John McCain, Nancy Kassebaum and Tom Daschle - have worked to block much of this evidence from being made public."

If the Hildebeast is the Dim candidate (and I fully expect that she will be - Edwards and Obama will have a series of accidents) I will vote for whatever Republican is on the ticket against her - that includes Rudy or McCain. If I could appoint the next President it would be Newt.

McCain's two biggest problems aren't even mentioned, IMHO..

1. His health...Melanoma is scary stuff..and if he were the nominee, you'd see scientists and doctors all over the MSM every day telling people what could happen..all but implying that they'd be electing a "dead amn walking"

2. His wife...Cindy's done rehab, a few times...but she has all but disappeared from the national stage.. I don't think she can handle a national campaign and all the exposure..

They ain't seen nothin' if President McCain is placed in charge of the strawberries in the White House Kitchen!

That is about the only thing he is capable of being in charge of. For me, John McCain is synonymous with the 'Manchurian Candidate'. Let me rephrase that, he has been around so long he is now the Senile Manchurian Candidate.

..at one time he was the darling of the MSM with his Straight Talk Express

McCain crashed and burned in South Carolina and has never recovered.

It is way too early to anoint anyone. To anyone who thinks it's locked up--take a lesson from McCain and history...

Most serious pundits (including yours truly) have long dismissed the notion that McCain’s old age would harm his presidential prospects.

You're kidding yourself. Everyone I know think's McCain is too old.

The poll is set up so that Giuliani is questionable on account of his two divorces, and the only disquieting detail about McCain is supposed to be his age, but McCain dumped his first wife for a younger and richer one...after the first wife had worked hard to keep public attention on the plight of the POWs. Maybe he had good reasons for ending the first marriage--I don't want to judge him--but it is curious that he is getting a pass when others aren't.

If only the 'Rats would nominate Robert Byrd, then McCain's age wouldn't be an issue.

Typical...

Let's talk about something that has no impact or value, while ignoring the important things... Like McCain's participation in "The Keating Five." Or his sponsorship in McCain/Feingold CFR! And I hear he and Feingold don't think that their original CFR go far enough, so they want to extend it even further.

This guy is a danger to the Republic! Hell, 90 plus percent of the people in Washington are dangers to the Republic!

Sometimes the thought that the people on Flight 93 gave their lives to (at least indirectly) save the lives of those scumbags on Washington makes me sick!

I would never vote for Lieberman, even if he had an R next to his name.

Something that I've been trying to figure out is why in the world some on the Conservative side are so enamored of Lieberman. With the exception of support for Israel, and the "War on Terror," including Iraq, the guy's a hard core liberal. And he showed how dedicated he is to his convictions when he ran as Gore's VP, when he immediately stopped his criticism of Hollywood.

He may be a "nice guy," but that's no reason to vote for the guy!

I suspect that Lazzarus Long may have been a buffoon. I wonder if he every heard of social science? I wonder if he ever read Kerlinger's work on science and epistemology? Reasoning constitutes a major part of true social science and it pervades my work.

Lazarus Long is a fictional character, a literary device often used by Robert Heinlein to inject bits of humor and his personal opinions into his stories.

Straight out of the "Clinton FBI file Library" ???

If it can be proven that the information came from classified FBI files (that were missing from the Clinton White House), and if Hillary! can be connected to them, someone will be spending a long vacation at the Gray Bar Motel. Awwww.... Who am I kidding. There are far too many "ifs," and even if they caught her personally sawing the head off of one of her many "enemies," she would never be convicted.

"I'm not a Romney fan (and I'm Catholic), but nevertheless I find it embarrassing that such a significant portion of those polled would not vote for a Mormon."

I will join you in that sentiment, my fellow FReeper. It's baffling and disappointing to say the least. I hope it's largely due to misinformation or lack of knowledge among some other Christians about the common values and beliefs they share with the LDS faith.

On the other hand, these poll results will be very surprising to many in how they put Mitt Romney’s “religion issue" (24% negative) in proper perspective with Giuliani’s “personal life issue" (30% negative) and McCain’s “age issue" (42% negative).

I find the religion issue especially perplexing because I'm among the 8% in the country, from one recent poll, who would actually be more likely to vote for a candidate because they are LDS, and I'm not a member of the LDS Church (about 1.6% of the U.S. is LDS). My views arise from a long history living among LDS members for 16 years growing up in Utah. I admire and respect them more than any other people in the nation.

I wrote what I really think about a Republican who would not vote for a candidate only because they are Mormon in Post#113 on another thread if you care to read it.

Well, I'm not the only one. I hear from several others who will support McCain if he's the nominee. Also, take a look at the current Freeper poll to get an idea of who a lot of us are willing to vote for.

Regardless of what I think of Kerry, I think it's good to normalize our relations with Vietnam, especially with regard to finding out about MIAs.

I am not sure if there are surprises to be brought out or what is already known that have forces pushing against Rudy. My friend seemed to say that it was his personal history as well as what is on record for what he has said. The conservatives are making noises against his record. I am told that a strong enough case will be built to derail his candidacy. I hope it is not true because, as a conservative, I see Rudy with great leadership qualities and a high favorability among the middle of the road electorate. He could win against Hitlary if the vote were today. However, what will come up against him in the near term could sink him.

I will eat lots of popcorn to carry me through what could be a bad movie plot.

Re. "free speech." As much as I disagree with CFR, I don't really view it as a serious threat to free speech, let alone an "F-ing" thereof. We seem to still have free and spirited campaigns. FR is not being shut down. I feel as free to say my piece as I ever did before CFR.

I've only read one Heinlein book, Starship Trooper. It's a great book, but I've got my doubts about some of the wisdom of Lazzarus, at least what I've read here.
