Could John McCain’s unprecedented old age (he would be 72 when elected) be more problematic for his presidential run than Rudy Giuliani’s rocky marital life (he has been married thrice) in 2008? The latest USA Today/Gallup Poll seems to suggest this might be the case.
The new survey asks voters what they think about certain presidential candidate quirks.
USA Today/Gallup Poll. Feb. 9-11, 2007. N=1,006 adults nationwide. MoE ± 3.
“Between now and the 2008 political conventions, there will be discussion about the qualifications of presidential candidates — their education, age, religion, race, and so on. If your party nominated a generally well-qualified person for president who happened to be [see below], would you vote for that person?” Trend includes slight variation in wording. Voters are more comfortable with an anonymous thrice-married candidate than an anonymous seventy-two year old candidate? Most serious pundits (including yours truly) have long dismissed the notion that McCain’s old age would harm his presidential prospects. This doesn’t necessarily spell doom for the elderly McCain, and the results might be different if Rudy’s name went along with the thrice-married tag and McCain’s with the 72-year-old tag, but these results do pose some interesting questions about what qualities the American electorate requires from their Commander in Chief in this especially trying and weighty era of history.
I'll vote for any good man or woman on the GOP ticket who believes that fighting the war against Islamicism is our nation's top priority.
Yes. The Giuliani groupies are in spam warp overdrive mode already.
I expect a thread anytime breathlessly informing us that a poll of Armenian podiatrists in Poughkeepsie shows that they favor Giuliani over all other candidates by a six to one margin.
I do understand that many here will disagree with me. But I do see McCain as a man of high principle. His principles may not always be the same as yours or mine, but he does stick to them. He says what he's going to do, and then he does it.
I fixed your post.
McCain of the two actually has a good record on voting conservative, except for those major RINO issues like McCain - Feingold and such other party destroying legislation
Don't do that to my words. I'm hitting abuse.
I do not undstand how you can say that after he put McCain Feingold on the record as law.
But to each his own.
Thanks for saying that! I wanted to say the same thing but I refuse to post to anything to that dishonest poster for reasons that I won't go into here. The spamming by the Rudybots and propaganda they've been spewing out daily is unbelievable. I'm surprised Jim has allowed his forum to be used by these propagandists trying to get conservatives here to vote for a liberal rEPUBLICAN, if you can call him that. Jim's a much better man that I am. Good post my FRiend!
A wh0re should be judged by the same criteria as other professionals offering services for pay,
such as dentists, lawyers, hairdressers, physicians, plumbers, etc.
Is she professionally competent?
Does she give good measure?
Is she honest with her clients?
It is possible that the percentage of honest and competent whores is higher than that of plumbers and much higher than that of lawyers.
And enormously higher than that of professors.
LAZARUS LONG
Go right ahead.
You must have some pretty thin skin
I disagree with John on that. His purpose was to fix a problem he saw regarding the way we run campaigns in this nation. He was following a different principle, and probably leaning more toward pragmatism. This is no sin to me. So far as I can see, we still have free and spirited political campaigns.
Ronald Reagan thought McCain was a pretty good guy. So do I.
His only principle is catering to his own massive ego. I can't believe you're unable to see that.
Do you mean, Commander In Chief Hillary. Think about that for a while. Especially voting day when it's raining, the baby needs changing and feeding, the girls need to get to dance class at the same time the boys have to be at the football field. And you're out of groceries. First things first. First things first.
If I ever change your words around and make them look like a quote, you too can hit the button.
Then why did he exempt his major funding contribution organizations from the bill?
Maybe if I knew as much on politics as you seem to know about whores, I'd be a better professor.
I don't know. I don't know if he even did this. I tend to mistrust and discount a great deal of what McCain bashers say around here. And even if what you claim is true, I'll still support him because we agree on a dozen other more important issues.
Ok, give me an example where McCain has said one thing but done another. Give me an example of where he has lied. I'm not claiming he's perfect, and you may indeed be able to find some flaws. But in general, I see him as one of our more principled politicians.
It isn't that McCain's a liar. It's that's he's seriously unstable.
OK. There are a lot of people who think that. I tend to think that America and the rest of the West is much more likely to die because of cancerous ideologies born in the west before the Islamos can do it. I also think its a lot more likely that the current crop of politicians are internationalists who are going to essentially abolish America and hand it over to the Mexican government before the Islamos get a chance to kill us than the Islamos would be able to destroy the country by blowing up buildings here and there.
I'm a firm believer that the government is the biggest enemy of the people.
