Red County Interview: Bill Simon On Rudy Giuliani
Orange County Register Blog ^ | February 14, 2007 | Bill Simon Interview

Posted on 02/16/2007 7:53:31 PM PST by BunnySlippers

Bill Simon: I think Rudy will make an extraordinary President. I don't know of anyone I'm in 100% agreement with respect to every issue -- even my fellow conservatives. So I'm not troubled if I don't agree with someone on every issue as long as they demonstrate very strong leadership qualities, which Rudy does, and a very strong sense of public service, which Rudy does, and a very firm agenda in areas that are important to me and in a way in which he can execute -- all of which Rudy does.

When you think about the priorities he's expressed -- things like national security -- I don't know of anyone better in the public arena now who can handle issues of national security better than Mayor Giuliani.

And when you talk about issues related to fiscal conservatism, which are important to Rudy, I don't know anybody in the public arena who has cut taxes 23 times as Rudy did when he was mayor of New York; who has shrunk the size of government, which he did when he was mayor of New York; reduced the welfare rolls by over 50 percent, which he did when he was mayor of New York. And that's not going into reducing crime by 65% and many other things that he did while mayor in a situation that, before he became mayor, was widely regarded as the second toughest job in American politics, and was widely regarded as an ungovernable situation.

I think he did an extraordinary job as Mayor of New York in a Democrat-controlled environment, and being able to function as a fiscal conservative in that Democrat-controlled environment is an amazing achievement.

Cunningham: How long have you known Mayor Giuliani?

He's also "screwed the pooch" on a host of issues like an education fiasco bill with TED KENNEDY (reaching across the aisle is only good for ONE side - the LIBS), he has essentially given up the country to illegal aliens, he has NOT used his veto pen when he needed to, etc.

Not being a TOTAL LIBERAL RINO like gun-grabbing RINO-rudy, at least he has not attacked our 2nd Amendment rights.

The ONLY thing he and RINO-rudy have in common, and the ONLY good point for RINO-rudy, is that they both might do a similar job in the WoT.

That's about it in the "conservative" column for RINO-rudy. HARDLY enough to earn the right to run for Republican POTUS.

Rudy is terrific; I've been reading about and watching him for about 17 years now and he's destined for great things.

Glad you're here.

Maybe that was a bit over the top, but this goofball has some real issues with Christians.

Maybe it's Neil Boortz.

He loves to go on Christian-bashing tangents for some bizarre reason.

the place I found it is the GOP Flash Report which is the official website of the Republican Party in California.

--

Would you care to show how you arrive at that statement about FlashReport being the official web site of the Ca GOP or the CRP? Just curious.

I don't see the proprietor of that site, Jon Fleischman, making that statement on his site. Maybe you can point out where it's on his site.

I have been frequenting that site for some time and posting from there occasionally.

..really....I've never heard Neil Boortz do that but I don't hear him much...I've agreed with him for the most part....and I understand your passion....I like Rudy and have said I don't know who I'm voting for....but besides Duncan Hunter...where are they?......for instance, I like Newt but I honestly don't think he is much of a leader type even with the Repub landslide years ago....he is much more a tactician and academician....

My only problem with Christians is with those who feel the Oval Office is their ultimate pulpit. It's not. Politics have nothing to do with your god, and while I realize we all rely on our own moral values to make our choices about social issues, I think it is to the detriment of the GOP that every candidate must first pass some religious screening before being deemed acceptable.

Hopefully this view is acceptable to the good christian on this site, or otherwise I guess I'll just have to get berated with more perverse comments again.

Stick to the issue. Americans tend to elect from the middle ground. Rudy has broad appeal. He is seen as strong on security, taxes, smaller government, cultural decay issues. My priority, however, is the defense of the entire Western Civilization and moderity in general...I'll get to fussing over the kind of health care we should have in America afterwards, Fred.

haven't listened to rush in a while, just wondering if he has talked about rudy at all and what his view is on rudy's positions.

I like Newt.

One of his best points is...

He's NOT a lawyer. :)

He's an extremely intelligent guy (a former history professor that is also up to speed on technology, and a host of other issues of importance to our American way of life).

Some say that the media would trash him, but I think RINO-rudy has infinitely more baggage open to media-instigated trashing than Newt.

At least with Newt, the liberal media would get their trashing started early on, which would lose them some steam closer to the election

With RINO-rudy, like mccain, being the "darling" of the left-wing media, they would WAIT until after he wins (IF he wins the primary) to start trashing him BIG TIME.

As a former Marine, I like the fact that Duncan Hunter served his country, and so has his son served recently, in Iraq.

Most ANY true conservative would be better than a RINO, and I firmly believe that if a RINO somehow makes it to the general against a dem, he will split the party and virtually hand the presidency to the dem.

Hopefully, we can derail that nonsense early on.

Interesting day here - first Gingrich is trashed for praising Rudy - then that nut Ron Paul votes for the lame nonbinding resolution placing GWB on double-secret probation - now on post 67 I see that there are no conservatives from California or New York so I guess Duncan Hunter is now a RINO - LOL by April some of these people will need tranquilizer darts!

Rush said he's not going to carry the liberal Republicans water for them any more.
I don't think, and I'm guessing, he'll have much trust in a NYC liberal pretending to run as a Conservative. Rush is too smart for that.

I'm the same. I don't know who Rush supports or will support -- it is early. Hannity will probably back Rudy (this much we all know).

Americans tend to elect from the middle ground

We are in, as O'Reilly (I don't always agree with him) puts it, a CULTURE WAR.

It's VITAL that we win it against the dems. TOTAL victory is the ONLY answer, and we're NOT going to get there by putting up FAUX Republicans that are little different from the enemy.

The middle ground is a place for COWARDS.

If our military had always looked to take the "middle ground", we NEVER would have won the battles and wars we've fought in throughout our great country's history.

If our brave troops can go off to foreign lands to fight for our freedom and the freedom of others, the LEAST WE CAN DO, is fight here in a "bloodless" sort of "war" for our country's SURVIVAL as a nation that the Founding Fathers put together and envisioned for the future - which is NOW.

Do we really WANT a bastardized, mongrel nation made up of sheeple and opportunists only interested in making the easy, "MODERATE" or "MIDDLE GROUND" choices?

I don't think so.

We've got to put a STOP to this mongrel RINO tide, NOW, before it's too late.

Thanks SW.

These RINO-lovers make it difficult for a TRUE CONSERVATIVE to be silent (they scream out for Shock & Awe tactics to be employed).

What they really need is to be beaten severely about the head and shoulders like a red-headed step-child. :)

You should look at his actual record. There's lot's of red meat conservative accomplishments there. Of course if you're just a single issue voter...never mind.

Of course if you're just a single issue voter... We need the "Not this sh*t again" man for this ignorant comment.

Look at my previous posts regarding the MANY conservative issues that RINO-rudy does NOT support or defend.

Look at Spiff's table showing how much rudy's positions are like the dems.

Look at a HOST of other posts mentioning the MANY liberal positions RINO-rudy has taken, and CONTINUES to espouse.

READ and COMPREHEND.

You'll see the light.
