Giuliani: A candidate to consider

If I thought the most important task the next American President would face would be dealing with abortion policy or protecting second amendment rights, a Giuliani candidacy would not arouse my interest. Because I will be looking to the next President first and foremost to address issues of foreign policy and national security, though, Giuliani is a candidate I am enthusiastically considering.
snip
When I look at candidates, though, I am considering the biggest challenges the next President will face. Americans are moving closer to the conservative position on abortion and gun control. Gone are the days that Democrats could count those as surefire winning issues for them. In fact, in the past two presidential campaigns alone I have seen more pictures of camouflage-wearing Democrats toting shotguns than I probably have in my entire lifetime.
As technology continues to improve and makes it clearer (literally, as 3-D ultrasounds become clearer) that an unborn child is just that, a child, not a mass of tissue, then public opinion will continue to move in favor of life. There is still much work to do, but I see issues like abortion and gun control being impacted much more significantly by the Supreme Court, than by the President directly. Giuliani has said that if he were elected president, he would seek individuals like Alito, Scalia and Thomas to appoint to the judiciary.

"As technology continues to improve and makes it clearer (literally, as 3-D ultrasounds become clearer) that an unborn child is just that, a child, not a mass of tissue, then public opinion will continue to move in favor of life." This technology isn't brand new and if it didn't already change their their position, it would be hard to believe they are sincere.

"Most of Clinton's policies are similar to most of mine." - Rudy Giuliani“I can support a ban on late-term abortions, including partial-birth abortions, so long as the health and life of the mother is protected.”
-Hillary Rodham Clinton, Senate debate with Rick Lazio in Manhattan, Oct 8, 2000
I supports a ban on partial-birth abortion as long as there is a provision to protect the life of the mother.

On Gun Control
This is an industry that is profiting from the suffering of innocent people. Whats worse, its profits rest on a number of illegal and immoral practices. This lawsuit is meant to end the free pass that the gun industry has so long enjoyed... Rudy Giuliani 2000 after filing suit against gun makers and distributors.
On Gun Control We need a federal law that bans all assault weapons, and if in fact you do need a handgun you should be subjected to at least the same restrictions-and really stronger ones-that exist for driving an automobile... Rudy Giuliani 1997

This technology isn't brand new and if it didn't already change their their position, it would be hard to believe they are sincere. Why not? People can't change? Showing pictures of fetuses in the womb and fascinating Ultra sound photos do alot more than shoving anti-Abortion signs in people's faces and screaming BABY KILLER! People get turned off by that and see it as an infringement on their rights to do what they want. It makes them more stubborn and turned off. You have to change minds and the way to do that is with information and technology. We live in a technological world and especially young people will be more apt to take at look at a picture or DVD than they would someone screaming in their face or shoving stuff down their throats. People need to be informed and one of the best ways is thru technology.

If this were about gun control or abortion then as much as I admire him as a leader even I could not vote for him. But it isn't, it is about who will lead us in victory in the GWOT and who will block the Dems from capitulating. I am not saying everyone should put there hesitations aside and join team Rudy, but please give him more then a knee jerk "baby killer" "gun grabber" or "gay lover" and actually consider A. what the president outside of judges (which he has stated Scalia and Alito would be his basis for picking judges) on abortion or gun control and B. What the likely hood of these even being federal issues in the next 8 years. On abortion, good judges is the best we can hope for in which he said he would appoint. Gun control has become more of an issue for the state legislators then for congress, and if that is your big issue you should consider spending more time regaining control of congress then fighting a Rudy presidency over that. On gay marriage he is against it (for civil unions) and he will not fight for gay marriage and you know it.
For those who are pro life and pro gun as I am may want to ponder how much our positions and values will be fought for with a uber rat in the white house and a Democrat house and senate which will happen if we nominate a puritan or sit home.

Same here.
Rudy will appoint strict constructionists, which negates his stand on social issues.
This country needs a post-9/11 warrior as the next president.
Rudy is that guy.
To: Peach
"Giuliani has said that if he were elected president, he would seek individuals like Alito, Scalia and Thomas to appoint to the judiciary." This has been appearing in almost every single news release lately. Do they really believe that Giuliani will be able to appoint constructionists to the judiciary with a Democratic controlled Senate? Bush was barely able to get those above approved, even with full control of the Senate.

"Most of Clinton's policies are similar to most of mine." - Rudy GiulianiWhere I stand on abortion is, I oppose it. I don't like it. I hate it. I think abortion is something that, as a personal matter, I would advise somebody against," Giuliani said.
Rudy Giuliani - Hannity & Colmes Feb 07
"My great hope is that abortion becomes rarer and rarer." "I think we can all agree that it is a tragedy when four in 10 pregnancies worldwide are unplanned -- and half of them end in abortion.""I have never met anyone who is pro-abortion."
