Bush Guru Says President's Bond With U.S. 'May Be Lost'
ABC News-Political Radar ^ | 02-15-07 | WestVirginiaRebel

ABC News' Teddy Davis reports: In the forthcoming issue of Texas Monthly, former Bush Strategist Matthew Dowd writes that President Bush's "gut-level bond" with the American people "may be lost" and that "wholesale change" is needed in Iraq.

"Sending a small contingent of troops is likely going to be seen as not helpful," Dowd writes. "He'd be much better off with the public if he said, 'This is a mess, we made mistakes, and the only way to fix it is a wholesale change.' And that could mean either a serious increase in troop strength or withdrawal."

Yeah, I guess that bond could be "Lost". Or it could be "Survivor". Or may even "Deal, or No Deal"...

Soooo...is a "Bush strategist" the same as being a "military strategist"? I'm just wondering, because as far as I know, Dowd was never employed to run a war.

We elect presidents not to "bond" with us, we already did that once and paid an enormous price. We elect presidents to do the right things, and to lead.

What will "Bushbots" say? That's a confrontational way to present this article.

To me, this guy sounds like he's allowed himself to be overcome with Dem shouting and talking points.

It's almost amusing to see the flip-flopping of those who've lost the spine to continue the war on terrorism and in Iraq.

Those who couldn't wait to get on board when the Iraq war was popular are now jumping ship like rats when the tide turns. Cowards.

Bush warned against losing our committment. And now we see he was right.

this guy is obviously outlived his usefulness since we're not talking about pre-9/11 politics but a real war. his advice to "admit mistakes" or whatever and withdraw completely or send every able-bodied man to iraq is just plain stupid.

"Sending a small contingent of troops is likely going to be seen as not helpful," Dowd writes.

There appears to be a change in strategy as well, not just troop strength.

"He'd be much better off with the public if he said, 'This is a mess, we made mistakes'

Actually, he did.

Bears repeating.

Uh... who's he running against, again? Who cares about this "gut-level bond"??

What's that for, anyway?

'This is a mess, we made mistakes, and the only way to fix it is a wholesale change.

Change what? Seems that things are going pretty well all of a sudden. If you got a book deal on that I'd get it finalized sooner rather than later. What mistakes? Not seeing into the future? Dang.

I thought you were talking about Maureen Dowd! His bond with me isn't lost. Nor with the retired LTC I sat next to on the plane home from Arizona last week. We both agreed the war has got to be fought and won because the terrorists will stop at nothing and seem to want nothing but to kill us.

Bush rocks

Dowd is disloyal.

We won and are winning in Iraq.

True leaders are very seldom popular until after they are gone and replaced.

Bush Guru Says President's Bond With U.S. 'May Be Lost'

When he was smiling with Pelosi, he might as well have said aloud
"Thank G-d these open-borders and ENDLESS AMNESTY Democrats have
replaced those pesky law-n-order Republicans. FINALLY, my natural
allies are controlling the Senate and House and I can really get
down to work!".

I know that's harsh.
I REALLY respect Dubya for the lack of a terrorist attack on
US soil since 9-11.

But I have a hard time abiding his work as the President of
the USA AND La Raza.
