Conservative blogger John Hawkins (Right Wing News) announced today that he is consulting for presidential candidate Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA).
For those who haven't followed his efforts in the Congress, Hunter introduced the Right to Life Act, which would legally define "personhood" as the moment of conception and, therefore, guarantee all constitutional rights and protections, including life, to the unborn without utilizing a constitutional amendment. (more information here)
Hawkins' involvement in the promotion of Hunter tells me that the candidate is a consistent ideological conservative in addition to his solid pro-life record. In fact, prior to being approached by a media group connected with Hunter's campaign, Hawkins had written positively concerning Hunter, promoting his candidacy through an interview and Town Hall Column (we noticed).
Second, the utilization of Hawkins reflects the emergent influence of bloggers on the political process and the demonstrated results. During the last presidential election cycle several writers were enlisted to help publicize political campaigns through blogging efforts. Some, like Hawkins, were upfront and announced the financial incentive they were receiving. Others didn't and were heavily criticized. However, the growing practice of enlisting bloggers reflects a positive track record and the complimentary advantage blogs provide to traditional campaign marketing efforts.
Finally, press reports about Hunter have been dismissive, if not negative. There was a time when this may have proven fatal to a campaign. Hunter's media group realizes that those times are over and their candidate's position on the issues can reach voters without an exclusive reliance on MSM
I like yer thinking. That scares me.
Will do!
Yes, infantile. LOL
The grass is starting to get warm, that's for sure.
Those gotta be fake. Asian chicks don't have boobs like that.
Wow...you are as inane as your user name.
13. Are you hoping there is someone new who you havent heard about yet who may enter the 2008 presidential race?
Yes:
Democrats 46%
Republicans 53%
Independents 53%
Some would argue that a female's body has been invaded by a foreign source that is not welcome to stay long term. I know that is an unpopular position here but that doesn't change the fact some would argue that position.
Much is said about respecting the individual's rights and I think that is a great argument...I offer that it is a valid one that both sides can present as accurately as the other.
I would offer that a balance has to be struck in such a delicate situation as one where two sets of rights exist within one body. Both should be respected equally, imho. I realize that some people, on both sides of this endless debate, would ignore one set of rights in favor of the other but I'm Just sayin I don't personally fall into that category.
I would like to see a time where no pregnancies are ever aborted and I think science will get to that point someday. Until then, I'm Just sayin that personally I think we need to respect each set of rights as equally as possible so every election forever doesn't come down to this subject.
I'm not trying to hijack this thread and make it the same old abortion argument that has been hashed over a thousand times so I will leave it at that.
I will just say that defining a right to life is defining a right to life. Trying to have it both ways got John Kerry destroyed. I would not want to see that happen to Duncan Hunter, and you know that is what the Media will do, because I think he is the best all around candidate in the entire field right now.
I whould love to be on the ping list also. Hunter so far is the best choice IMO.
IMO, Hawkins is the best mainstream solid conservative blogger out there with the connections and respect needed to enhance his profile on the web. Very good move.
You are too new here to want to go down that road, especially on this thread.
We don't want to be baited into a abortion discussion here at this time. This is a thread about John Hawkins joining the DH team.
Thanks.
Consider it done...at least by tomorrow. I've got tons of names I'm compiling for Antoninus' master list.
At least he was very polite - and seemingly open-minded about it. I'll give him points for that.
I agree. Let's work on the Powerline guys next. ;o)
Yes, he was polite. But it is a discussion for the Religion forum.
I'd actually disagree on that point, but not on the fact that it's a debate best held elsewhere.
More on point, here's the actual John Hawkins announcement:
