YUMA, Ariz., Feb. 15 (UPI) -- National Guard soldiers patrolling the Arizona border with Mexico say illegal crossings have dropped dramatically since they arrived.
Officers say apprehensions of illegal immigrants around Yuma, Ariz., are down 62 percent from the same time last year and the amount of marijuana seized fell 36 percent in the same period, the Christian Science Monitor reported Thursday.
On the entire U.S.-Mexico border, apprehensions have declined 27 percent since the start of President Bush's Operation Jumpstart, which began eight months ago to protect the area while more border patrol agents are trained.

I know of a couple of Border Patrol agents who would like to go back to work.
maybe they have been taking different routes and they have not been caught. Or maybe it has not been reported.
there should be a large firing range to test tanks, missiles, sniper training...
Did you hear that Rep. Rohrbacher is so damned pissed at Bush that he even used the "impeach" word?.....now that is pissed...so am I
I guess I'm a skeptic. This could be reminicent of the Battle of the Atlantic where the US/Canada/Britain were using ULTRA to route the convoys around the known U-boat pickets. We know the Mexican government assists the border crossers in so many ways. Is it such a stretch to believe that they can re-route the coyotes to crossings that aren't actively patrolled?
How can they say that? The National Guard wasn't there last year. This is terrible reporting.
And most are already here!
Apparently, things are picking up in Texas.
Tip leads to arrest of 46 illegal immigrants in north Houston house [plus 9 human smugglers]
An anonymous tip led to the arrests of 55 people at least 46 of them illegal immigrants by Immigration and Customs Enforcement...
"This is the time of the year when things start to pick up again," [ICE spokeswoman Luisa] Deason said.
John Walsh of "America's Most Wanted" has brought a lot of attention as well.
A pardon may not be in the gentlemen's long term interest, but they should be released during their appeal.
Another appropriate action would be a full-scale investigation into corruption in the state prosecutors office. This case should never have been brought to trial.
"I know of a couple of Border Patrol agents who would like to go back to work."
Yeah, before they are murdered!
BORDER PING
The gubmint, rather than directly attacking its citizens, is using the scum coming over the borders to do it for them. That way, fewer votes are lost. Aaarrghhhh!
If I were them, I'm not sure I would want to go back; I'd be looking for a line of work where I wouldn't get stabbed in the back for doing my job.
"The National Guard wasn't there last year. This is terrible reporting."
They're making the point that crossings have been deterred SINCE they got there. They didn't have to be there to know what the stats were.
I just barely heard about this pick up of illegals. People know it is happening, but the Freepers and Lurkers would rather see what happens with ANS and her fortune.
IMHO, I think that not being focused on the issues that plague this country, like illegal immigration, will end up being a huge detriment.
If it can't be put in a 5 second soundbite, it isn't reported.
