I see your point, but don't know about the assertion. I think they manipulate the English language quite well as part of their propaganda.

He fled with his mother, and the father stayed behind, apparently to fight as a soldier. They were reunited in 1995. There are 3 younger sisters - it doesn't say anything about them when they "fled", so it looks like they were born after war.
