You don't remember correctly. There is an Albanian Army contingent operating as part of the coalition in Iraq, but as far as the much yearned for connection between Serbia's muslim opponents in the Balkans and our opponents in Iraq and Afghanistan, that's turned out to be nothing more than yet another failed Serbian disinformation campaign which still chalks up individual victims such as yourself.
Either way it doesn't change the fact that what happened in Kosovo was a total disaster of misinformation put out by Albanian propagandists. The fact is while Milisovic was a bad character there wasn't a "genocide" going on but a war against the same terrorists we fight today.
A December 31, 1999, article in the Wall Street Journal (coincidentally, by Daniel Pearl) reported that allegations of indiscriminate mass murder, rape camps, crematoriums, mutilation of the dead havent been borne out in the six months since NATO troops entered Kosovo. Ethnic-Albanian militants, humanitarian organizations, NATO and the news media fed off each other to give genocide rumors credibility. Now, a different picture is emerging.
