Katie Couric's Notebook: Endless Announcements

Hi, everyone.
Yesterday, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney declared his candidacy for president. Last Saturday, Illinois Senator Barack Obama did the same.
Why was neither announcement a surprise? Maybe because everybody knows that both these candidates--along with all the others--have been running for months.
And yet, we --the media -- and they -- the candidates -- conspire with each other, and pretend that these announcements are actually news.
The game has been played every election since 1988 and it goes like this:
Candidates announce they're thinking of exploring--we cover that. Candidates announce they're officially exploring--we cover that. Candidates announce they're--quote--"pretty sure" they're going to run--we cover that. And finally, candidates announce that they're actually running--and as you'll see this week, we cover that.
It's a win-win for the press and the politicians...we both get the stories we want. But the public just gets information overload.
That's a page from my notebook.

I know they had "a thing" for each other. Didn't know their characters were once married. Never the less, he'd still hit. :-)

Thanks for the pics I have always thought Sela Ward is just gorgeous. And she seems nice too.
To: rawhide
Sela's aged quite well. Katie has not. While I don't know Sela's politics, I figure a southern "Bama" gal isn't infected with the visceral liberal hatred gene that Katie has.
A gene that makes a person not only ugly, but downright mean.

Her eyebrows don't seem to follow her natural brow bone. Is that due to a facelift? Or does she paint on her eyebrows?

I now see that after the posting of older pics. My eyebrows grow right over my brow bone, so I was just wondering.

Well, so do mine, but I'm a guy and Sela's all woman, and I've heard it said that; girls are different.

You can buy a used copy of Sela Ward's book, which has a picture of her and Bear Bryant in it, on Amazon.com for just 1 cents plus shipping (or a new copy for $1.90). Fyi.
amazon link From a customer review of the book: "One photo that will especially hit home with Southern readers is a humorous one of Sela posing with Paul "Bear" Bryant during the time she was a cheerleader at the University of Alabama."

Hmm, I'm a woman, too. I suppose if I plucked my eyebrows, I could achieve that special arch that Sela has. I'll be right back.

It's not so much what she gets per year - its a question of what she gets as a golden parachute once the CBS execs realize it's not going to get better. Then let's roll the tape on here sneering remarks about Nardelli and executive compensation.
