Muhammad started off with 300 warriors.
In a word IDIOTS!
Great point, and one I make to big gummint people all the time--Jews and non-Jews. As I have told my kids and others who might listen: General Motors or Pfizer will never kick your door in at 4 AM and pull you out of bed for being a conservative a kulak or a Jew or gay. Big governement, on the other hand, has done just that and killed tens of millions of people in the 20th Century. While corporations may not be perfect, they do not become jack-booted thugs.
Yes and no. I live in the far NYC suburbs and work in a profession that has a large percentage of Jews, and nearly all of the Jews that I know are left of center to some degree. The most radical self-hating Jews seem to be public school teachers and of course, college professors.
I believe that Jews tend to be liberal for several reasons: First, many of the Jews who were fortunate enough to escape Europe during the days leading up to World War II were socialists, commies, and the so-called intellectuals. Many settled in the NYC area and became active members of the Socialist Wokers Party, Communist Party, and labor unions. Their children and grandchildren grew-up with other leftists, and as they achieved success, they pursued careers in professions dominated by leftists such as academia, teaching, journalism, and entertainment. Many Jews are leftists because that's all they have ever known.
Second, during the 1920's through the 1950's, white-shoe Amercia was extremely anti-Semetic, and as a result, many Jews connected with the civil rights movement that began with Brown vs the Topeka Board of Education, and as we all know, the Civil Rights Movement was infiltrated and hijacked by commies, socialists, and leftist freakazoids.
Gee, that would make your lord and savior a socialist, now wouldn't it?
And why is that the case?
In 2000, the total population of the U.S. was 281,421,906, the urban population was 222,360,539 (79.01%), and the rural population of the U.S. was 59,061,367 (20.99%)
The ancestors of a large number of American Jews came to America to escape the centuries of anti-semitism and pogroms of the Czarist Russian empire. In their cultural history, "Christians" means a mob of Eastern European peasants coming to burn the Jewish village down.
In the late 19th Century and early 20th Century, those Jews were strongly attracted to the Bolshevik ideology as they saw Bolshevism as a way of toppling the hated Czarist regime as well as turning the "Christian" Eastern European peasant mobs into well behaved atheists in a theoretically classless society.
Communism was the promised Shining City Upon A Hill.
All that 19th Century Eastern European cultural baggage crossed the Atlantic and America is still dealing with it.
Since the early 20th Century Jewish immigrants who came to America never experienced the realities and the horrors of Communism first hand, they were never disillusioned of their Communist fantasies. The romance of Communism remained. The results were the Red Diaper Babies of the early 20th Century, the nuclear treason of the Rosenbergs and the fact that 80% of Jews still lean very heavily towards the Left.
In addition, in the ridiculous division of all politics into "Left" or "Right", they reason that if the Communists were "Left", then the Nazis must have been "Right". (In reality, Communism and National Socialism were simply two competing versions of "Left".) That is then carried over to America and, since the Democrats are "Left", that must mean that voting Republican is the moral equivalent of voting for Hitler-Lite.
Hopefully, the younger Jewish generations will leave that century-old cultural baggage behind as the Red Diaper generations die off and as they realize that the Left is not the friend of the Jewish people.
"In short, the Republicans are not just our kind of people, many Jews say. They don't sound like us, they don't talk like us and they don't understand us. Unless and until that changes, Jews likely will likely be voting overwhelmingly Democratic for years to come."
Ms Rubin, like most left leaning Jews, which is most American Jews, continues to ignore the growing antisemitism of the "compassionate" Democrats. I personally am fairly shocked at how open this antisemitism has become among ordinary otherwise nice "liberal" people.
Also, she doesn't speak for the Jewish community, as she seems to think. The Republican Jewish Coalition in particular might take issue with her.
Politically, support of Israel is a non-issue. Both parties vote overwhelmingly in support of Israel. Hence, there is little risk in terms of support for Israel regardless of what party you belong to.
I notice that liberals tend to be more wealthy than average. At the same time they generally think that wealth creation is evil, but that the solution to all problems is, "throw more money at it."
There are 43 Jewish Congressmen in the 110th Congress. Only three are Reps, i.e., Coleman, Cantor, and Specter. The rest are Dems/Independent/Sociallist and are among the most liberal in Congress.
In this entire thread so far, there has been no cooberation that American Jews bear a resentment toward Henry Ford. I am old enough to collect Social Security and have never heard of this resentment.
Hugh Hewitt had Dennis Prager on his show to discuss this report by the National Jewish Democratic Council. Prager said it is a small group that are part of the Democratic Party.
"The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) expressed its deep concerns today about Republican Mitt Romney's decision to announce his candidacy for President from the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit, Michigan:
"NJDC is deeply troubled by Governor Romney's choice of locations to announce his Presidential campaign. Romney has been traveling the country talking about inclusiveness and understanding of people from all walks of life. Yet he chooses to kick off his presidential campaign on the former estate of a well-known and outspoken anti-Semite and xenophobe. Mitt Romney's embrace of Henry Ford and association of Ford's legacy with his presidential campaign raises serious questions about either the sincerity of Romney's words or his understanding of basic American history," said NJDC Executive Director Ira Forman.
I think your comments are right on the money. The author is trying to paint the GOP as "far right." Ironic, as we here on FR are generally bemoaning that the GOP is becoming RINO. It's obvioius enough to me that the Republican Party is to a large extent drifting steadily leftwards.
Whoever said Jews of the "Liberal" persuasion were really "Jews"? The number of so-called "Jews" in that vein are really cafeteria Jews: pick what they want and to H#ll with the Torah.
I suppose they'll be complaining when Ahmanutjob nukes Israel, too.
Hitler started with a few drunken Kruats in a Munich berr hall.
