Massachusetts Republicans may spoil Mitt Romney’s party this week. Ex-NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani is set to score a coup with endorsements from 2 and perhaps a third of the 5 Bay State Republican state senators. Credit for the Giuliani coup goes to former governor Paul Cellucci, who’s been working to snag members of the tiny Republican caucus.
Sources said that Senate minority leader Richard Tesei to endorse Giuliani. Tesei, a Wakefield Republican, is in his first term as leader. Insiders think the only way to increase their numbers (or avoid obliteration) in 2008 is with a moderate Republican. There are 24 Republicans among the 200 Massachusetts House and Senate members.
Romney returns to Massachusetts on Thursday for Boston fund-rasier to cap a tour of early primary states that began today. The Senate GOP trio may make their announcement before that. The nineteen Republican members of the House signed a letter of support for Romney, but that too is starting to crack. State Representative Paul Loscocco jumped to McCain. Other defections among the House members are expected.

You guys are right on. Guiliani and Romney will duke it out. I just don't think McCain will get (nor should get)the nomination.

Man, I'll bet Rudy will get William Weld's vote too. He is just sucking in those big endorsements from all the leading conservative luminaries.

Ah, yes, liberal RINOism has done such a banner job with "increasing" the membership of the state legislature down to 11%. News flash: the MA GOP has already been obliterated. Move right at long last or bury this corpse for good (or the voters will do it for you, there's no need for 2 liberal parties).
Giuliani is garnering a surprising amount of support. Part of it is that there is no clear concensus choice among conservatives. Also, Rudy's achievements impress even many who disagree with his views.
I suppose you are right. From the time Weld was elected in 1990, we went from 35 Reps and 16 Senators to today, 16 years later, with only 19 Reps and 5 Senators. We have never tried all-out Conservatism, but methinks that won't work any better than what we are doing now. Afterall, Massachusetts is practically 75% Pro-Choice (despite being 55% Catholic), and only 20% of our Voters consider themselves Conservatives. (Moderates supposedly make up like 45% or something)
Even 20-25% of the legislature would be better than what's there now. It's at a point now that starting from scratch is pretty much what you're left with.
Also I think a lot of Guiliani's surprising support is from the fact that Hillary will probably be the Democratic nominee.
We don't want the Clintons back into the White House so we have to find someone who can go toe to toe with the Clintons and fight dirty. That is the number goal right now.
Belief it or not, they could win most of the districts we currently hold if they really wanted to in a open seat environment.
