"Prosecutors said Wali, an Afghan farmer, came forward after learning he had been implicated in rocket attacks on a military base in Afghanistan."

The situation is a tough one in Afghanistan not knowing the good guys from the bady guys and you have to make tough judgements. However it looks like in this instance he went over the line. This being an AP story I would want a second source for confirmation of what really happened.

I agree. It sounds like this guy crossed the line.

It sucks being the good guys, and being under appreciated for how hard we try to be good.

One of our own, albeit a civilian, crosses the line and we punish him for it. But our enemies live entirely on the other side of the line, and commit crimes against humanity with regularity - and idiots rush to defend them on the basis that they are "weaker" than we are.

It is unfair, and there are times I catch myself wishing we could be just a little bit bad and not care for once. But we can't be, and we won't be, and that's just the way we are as a society. And it sucks, because if we were as bad as our militant and political opponents like to say we are, then they'd all be dead several times over. Well, either dead or quiet.
