Ted Olson Supporting Giuliani
American Spectator ^ | 2/13/07

Posted on 02/13/2007 12:34:44 PM PST by zarf

Theodore Olson, the stalwart conservative lawyer and former solicitor general for the Bush administration, told the Spectator he will be supporting Rudy Giuliani's presidential bid.

"I admire his character, his capacity for leadership, his instincts, and his principles," Olson said over the phone this afternoon. He said he will help Giuliani raise money as well as offer advice on legal issues and domestic policy matters that involve constitutional questions.

. . . sometimes you don't get all of what you want and have to compromise . . .

So we trade public funding of baby-killing for what? Staying the course in Iraq? Sorry, I'm not going to make a bargain like that, and neither will the "moderate" public on whom Rudy's campaign depends. Oh, they'll take free abortions all right, but nothing that requires responsibility goes along with that, so you can bet they'll vote for Hillary.

Who cares who the frontrunner is in February 07?

This forum obviously does based on the number of threads about it.

Also, the big money donors do. Each of them obviously wants to back the eventual winner, since there's little to gain by backing a loser.

The bets are being placed now, not after the starting gate opens and votes are counted.

The perceived frontrunner also garners the most media coverage.

There are a lot of reasons why people care now. If you wait to care, it won't matter.

Not sure why you are sending me SPOTUS opinion regarding the Vince Foster Death Scene Photos... can you give me a clue as to why you sent it?

Ted Olson was the Solicitor General who supervised the government's opposition to my case at the Supreme Court. Also, search the document I linked to for "Olsen" to see something that he did that to this day stands uncorrected by him or the DOJ.

Bush, a man who has mild convictions in the pro-life area, would probably have named a pro-choice judge to the bench by now if the pressure against it hadn't been relentless.

I can't let your statement go unchallenged. President Bush came out strongly against federally-funded new strains of embryonic stem cell research. He took major heat for that.

If that's a mild conviction on his part, then I suppose you think Eric Rudolph had moderate views.

Did Reagan get Roe v. Wade overturned?

Is Reagan running for office right now?

No, but Reagan did more than any other Republican that I can think of to forward the pro-life movement in this nation and to firmly establish the pro-life plank in the Republican Party Platform.

Don't be trashing Reagan just because your candidate is a liberal.

"Wish he'd have picked Mitt."

I do too, but Mitt Romney got the endorsement of attorney Jim Bopp. Between the two attorneys, Bopp is the more valuable endorsement for Romney because of Bopp's huge reputation in the pro-life movement. Read this interview if you haven't already seen it.

Bopp on Why he Endorsed Romney

See Post #4 in the thread to learn more about Jim Bopp.

What I mean is that President Bush did what he had to do with the pro-life issue to remain viable politically, and little more than that. I appreciate his support on stem cell research, and his signing of the PBA Ban, but having seen the process, to a certain extent, from the inside, I know that these things were products of intensive and constant pressure on the part of pro-lifers. Absent that pressure Bush would have avoided the issue to a much greater degree.

Bringing up Eric Rudolph is an unfair debate tactic, and I am sure we can exchange ideas without that sort of thing.

Is this the "holier-than-thou" bile, excrement and nonsense spew you were speaking of?

Course not. I just disagree with this part.

Rudolf Giuliani does not deliver us from this evil, he delivers us to it.

This of course is unfounded... I also have problems with this part below....

If the Republican party embraces this evil culture of death platform as the Democrat party does, then I will have to agree... it's time to move on.

If that's true, let's flashback to 2005:

When the U.S. Congress was called into special emergency session to pass a bill allowing federal courts to review the case of Terri Schiavo, with President George W. Bush flying from Texas to Washington especially to sign the bill into law, of course, federal judges and the U.S. Supreme Court refused to intervene.  Ever since then, Bush has made his intentions known about his pro-life stance.  President Bush is not only the leader of this country, he is the representing figure of the GOP.  Pro-life has been making significant strides since he was elected to the highest office.  It's disengenuous to suggest that the "Republican party embraces the culture of death". But, if terrorism wins against freedom, then all the rest of the issues are moot.

Beyond that, it's just one person expressing their opinions.

I apologize if the Rudolph thing annoyed you, but I'm at a loss to know what else you would have had President Bush do, and why what's he's done is from "mild convictions."

Yeah, abortion isn't his number 1 stump issue. There's some crap going on in the Middle East that he's primarily focused on at the moment.

The voice of Ted Olson supporting Rudy speaks with more authority than most.

Ted lost his wife,Barbara Olson(BKO on FR), on 911 on the plane that was flown into the Pentagon. Experiencing the great personal loss first hand, as well as Rudy's leadership, Ted Olson speaks with more authority than most.

Ted, as one of the founders of the Heritage Society, has 100% bona fides as a Conservatives.

All of these notable and respected Conservatives coming out for Rudy must tell you something.

Rudy Giuliani is our best candidate to defeat Hillary in '08.
All of you anti-Giuliani freepers will hand Hillary an easy victory if you don't support him.
Is that what you want? Hillary Clinton for president?
I'll take Rudy.

This early in the game, I think it is unwise to trash any possible candidate.

Duncan Hunter is a fine man, and a fine member of Congress. How well he would do in the Primaries remains to be seen.

Seeing all the trash threads on FR, I am more and more convinced of Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment: Never speak ill of another Republican.
