"Meanwhile, pretty soon the only ones being persecuted will be Global Warming skeptics."

Al Gore does resemble Torquemada.

I wonder what level of education the Chicks completed?

Doesn't matter. I have seen really good hard working honest respectful Americans who have high school education at best. I don't think that the Dixie Chicks are insane because of educational level. I hope you know that.

LOL! I guess so! My sister's roommates couldn't understand why she had a job and didn't simply call home for more money! (My parents probably would have given it to her, too. She is "the baby" and they can surely afford it more now than when I was in college. But that isn't the way we were raised. We were all expected to have jobs in high school and college.)

Agreed. And, often, going to a liberal college (which is most colleges now) can do more harm than good. I think that was the point. Not that she is uneducated, but that she was poorly educated.

You are so right. Today I was waiting for a routine medical appointment and they had the View on. Overhere we get The View a day after everyone in U.S. does, but anyway, they had the four women who were talking about the Grammies and man you would have thought the Dixie Chicks were the next Savior of the World. The most disappointment was hearing the blondie everyone here on FR thinks is God. She was just thrilled that the Dixie Chicks won. She just kept saying their music is so good. I was surprised that is for sure.

Indeed, The View is a frightening view of the mentality of the people who eat that stuff up. The Hasselback gal is in waaaaaayyyyyy over her head. I think Rosie got in there and scared the snot out of her -- not that she was ever very good at holding her ground anyway. I have been very critical of some of the mean things Ann Coulter has said, but The View really needs someone like Coulter on that show. She could handle all three of them on her own.

Just wait until Al Gore wins his Oscar. They'll fall all over themselves with glee. As if it meant anything lol.

That would make the show so interesting, exciting, and the ratings would go through the roof.

Yep -- Hasselback was kinda gushing over Gore, too -- but I think she was being a little tongue-in-cheek. (I don't watch the show, but happened upon that interview one day and couldn't bring myself to change the channel.) She said she saw his movie and ran all the way home, so she wouldn't pollute the air. Joy Blowhard kept giving her annoyed looks every time she would speak up. The old ladies on the View sure do love Gore. It is amazing that these people get all excited about the Grammys and the Oscars which are nothing more than self-congratulations.

In reality even the Dixie chicks know why they received these awards. Even they cannot fool themselves into believing talent had anything to do with it.

They realise it was a political statement and not anything they did that got them selected.

They may try to bluff it out,but their fans have already voted with their pocketbooks and laid waste to any theory that the Grammy's is anything more than a big night for patting liberals on the back.

I'm not quite sure Natalie gets it yet. A clip of the Grammy's showed lil Nat saying all I can say is Hee Hee - I won't say anything more (something to that effect which leads me to believe that she thinks they won in spite of their trials and tribulations from detractors. Of course, she's fooling herself but she won't see it till the revenue from their music still spiral. Hope she sees that soon!!!

Like a friend of mine was saying; "Why do we call them 'celebrities'? What is there to celebrate about them? They are foolish overpaid bums. Aren`t they the opposite of what we should celebrate in people? Shouldn`t we use the antonym of "celebrities" and call them "nobodies"?

I agree with you wholeheartedly!!! Not only that, but they couldn't get a real job if they tried much less live in the real world. So they suffer for their art. Right, BARF. Celebrate what? Overpaid, over rated, egomaniacs don't deserve the recognition they get.

I wouldn't mind if they did think it was due to their talent. What I object to is Maines claiming this is a vindication of her words -- as if the voters in the music industry are reflecting the views of the music fans.

Never viewed the Chicks as anything other than just another so so singing trio. Now take "Bond" there is a great trio. They don't sing but they do more than strum.

To me when I was growing up in the late 1950`s and 1960`s, a celebrity was someone who did extraordinary stuff, someone who pushed the envelope and moved humanity as a whole a step further into a better area..For example Jonas Salk eradicating Polio, which back then was like curing cancer, or the Astronauts going to the moon or soldiers fighting the commie bastards in Vietnam. Today it seems the only requirement is being born to rich parents and doing drugs. While we have 100`s of thousands of extrodinary men and women over in Iraq the press instead chooses to celebrate the wasted useless lives of pigs like Paris Hilton or Anna Nicole Smith. It`s beyond pathetic today.

Simple rule. If a Dixie Chicks song is comes on the radio, I turn to another station.

It's not about being right or wrong. It is about going OVERSEAS and taking a cheap shot at the President in the company of people that can be pretty sure to agree with you.

There is no courage in that.

This award also tends to refute the notion of all-powerful "Jooos" in control of everything.

The anti-Zionist conspiracy theorists tell us that the American media is dominated by Zionist Jews. The same theorists also tell us that the Iraq War is the US going to war to protect Israel.

But the record companies are a particularly Jewish part of the Jewish-dominated media, if you buy all that stuff.

It just does not compute.

I guess the conspiracy theorists would say that the unseen hand is controlling both sides of the debate on the Iraq War.

Or maybe the truth is that there is no unified power behind the scenes, only very different factions with different ethnicity, religion, etc., fighting for control.
