"You are assuming that what they do is indeed for the sake of "diversity"."
I'm assuming nothing. I work at a very large company. I know the diversity thing very well.
I just found it amusing that someone that hopes to take adavantage of a foreign language is bashing diversity.

But of course you had to MEAN something by it... heaven forbid the simplest answer (that you thought that a spanish major was railing against diversity) is the correct answer. I didn't think you were railing on her - just noting the irony. lol

....Tufts might be a bastion of liberalism, but it's also home to one of the funniest and most irreverant student-run conservative magazines in the country.

True, I have sympathy for the poor young gal. She's got a tough road ahead of her. I'm impressed that she has the backbone to speak out. I hope she turns out well.

...and that my days of checking the Caucasian box are over. When I filled out the 2000 Census, I checked the "Other" box and wrote in AMERICAN.

No, she's not railing against diversity, she's railing against the post modernist metanarrative that the left describes as diversity. She's railing against the reverse discrimination and the anti-capitalism and anti-white male ideology of the political left.

Unless some people are willing to stand up for their beliefs without sole regard to how it will effect them economically the right will never prevail or even have its voice heard. I applaud her for voicing her informed opinion without thinking about how it might have consequence to her being able to make a buck.

When presented with an application (for anything) that inquires as to my race, I reply "HUMAN - homo sapiens". Simply because that is my race. Now, if they want my ethnicity, I reply "Caucausian-American".

Well, it sounded like caver was being slightly defensive on affirmative action. That's all.

I really do see how you can reach that conclusion based upon how it was written. But I had the same thought as Caver so I got it immediately.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. You won't hear me defending affirmative action. I just got a chuckle out of the story. Most things I read anymore make me mad, so a chuckle is good.

This is all fun by the way folks:
My point is, people actually believe that diversity is at play when a school allows "protected" students in who earned a poor score on a test over another "unprotected" student who did well.
By the way, why do people think we have accommodated everyone because we simply use race as the criteria for diversity? What about religious diversity? Economic diversity? Etc etc...
My friend Caver is also saying to simply accept it or you will go nowhere. If this is true it's because nobody had enough guts to challenge it. Everyone is too drunk with PC. Everything is okay as long as one is getting his or her paycheck at the very large company.
University entrance paperwork should not have names, addresses, race, sex, orientation or whatever on it. There should simply be an ID code. Also, it should have one other number that proves you have the brains to move on or go get a job as a bus driver. Can't get in? Study harder. Don't want to study harder? Then get your CDL.
Unleash the free market of the mind.
caver, I'm not picking on you. We are cool here.
