Bush Aides Like What They See In Guiliani
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/070212/12giuliani.htm ^

While the White House is taking a hands-off approach to the 2008 GOP presidential primaries so far, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is quietly seeing an administration cheerleading section grow.

One insider said that it is built on the fact that Giuliani continues to beat Sen. John McCain in the polls and also because he is offering to stick with several Bush programs, including an aggressive stance against terrorists, and promises to name conservative judges to the court. One Bush official today noted Giuliani's pledge to nominate conservative judges and applauded the New Yorker for making that claim in liberal California.

"He didn't back away just because he was in California. In fact, he went there to make that statement. That's a very important signal," said the insider. Interestingly, even White House conservatives are showing support for Giuliani.

"He's the front-runner, and he's doing everything so far very good," said another official. "He isn't bending to what people want to hear. He kind of sounds like Bush did in 2000."

Posters who imply that they speak for FR, for Jim or for anyone else but themselves, are both totally wrong and totally arrogant and foolish.

True enough. However, posters who make implied threats against FR ain't my faves either.

WRONG!! Just JR did and a few others. Try and tell that to our huge ping list. If you are suggesting that we move to another site FORGET IT!

Last poll that we had - 15% preferred Rudy.

>>>>>In fairness to the Rudy boosters, there ARE a lot of MSM articles about Rudy to post, IMO because the MSM really, REALLY wants him to win the nomination so they can destroy the GOP come the November elections.

You speak the truth!

Well you have to realize that alot of Rudy people have told me they are afraid to post on these threads because they are so volatile. That's pretty scary and I bet you they didn't vote in the poll either.

You want to oppose Rudy? Oppose him in the primaries.

Uh... that's what we're trying to do. The problem is, it's an uphill battle as the RINO GOP leadership (yes, I have no problem calling them that as the party lurches further and further left) and the MSM cheerleaders annoint Rudy as our one and only. It's simply disappointing to see so many on this board shout down debate on who our candidate should be by positing the bogeymen of Obama and Hillary. After we find a candidate we can unite around, we turn to face our foes. Not doing so is going off half-cocked... and that is no way to win a fight.

Be skeptical of the media. They do not cheer Rudy for the benefit of the GOP. They do so because they see he will be easy to crush for Hillary. Even if they don't, the true believers won't vote for anyone without a (D) next to their name. If the GOP goes leftward, they aren't going to peal voters from the (D), just lose support on the right. That, again, is a recipe for electoral disaster.

Howlin, I have always enjoyed your posts. Your support for Rudy on this site befuddles me though. FR exists to promote conservative ideals, not elect the most electable GOP candidate. Why is it we are being told two years from the election that we will have to hold our noses and vote for a liberal GOP candidate? There should at least be a debate of conservatism before then!

I want to see the GOP change the leftward shift they've shown recently and return to conservatism. We can pull them if we show them we're not going to follow them to Democrat-liteness. If we go along to get along, we gain nothing.

I have noticed that if we don't bash Rudy or tear him to shreds, we are deemed supporters of his.

Rudy is not my salvation, but if he's the GOP nominee, then he becomes this nation's salvation as the only one to stop a Hillary presidency --- a presidency I find unthinkable.

My apologies. I took your comment in 309 to be supportive of the pro-Rudy point of view. I read too much into it.

*Whew* Finding a new hero was going to be hard work!

My objection on these threads has been to the out and out trashing of anybody who doesn't agree lockstep with the "real, true" conservatives on this site.

It's been like this for years; same group, always trying to be relevant; if you want their posts, they're never FOR anybody, always against somebody.

They can't help it though; miserable real lives, I suspect. :-)

Obviously, the poll is anonymous. Your point there is fallacious.

If posters are going to promote a liberal "un-Republican" candidate like Giuliani on a red meat conservative forum like FR, they should expect a "volatile" response.

"You are a liberal"

LOL Nobody's ever accused me of that before.

I don't get too crazy over social issues these days - there are more important fish to fry. I'll worry about what kind of America I live in after I insure there IS an America to live in.

Sure I wish he was pro-life. But no President can do a damn thing about Roe beyond nominating strict constructionists to the SCOTUS, and Rudy has said he will do so. To everything there is a season, and this is the season to proactively beat back Islamic fundamentalism - which is not creeping, but attacking at full gallop.

To stay home and allow a Democrat to take the White House because of social issues is unconscionable, in my opinion. That's why I defend Rudy so hard. If you want to beat him, if he's so wrong for the party, beat him in the primaries.

But if he's nominated, you cannot just stay home.

I promise to vote for whomever comes out of the convention as the Republican candidate - even the despised McCain, who has done about ten times LESS for the party than Rudy in the last few years.

Fine. So AFTER the Primary Election - during the GENERAL Election - your point will actually be valid and you can bang that "vote for the Republican no matter what" drum all you want. Heck, I may be banging that drum with you. But until the GENERAL election, you're just making a lot of noise getting in the way of exposing the liberals and promoting the conservatives.
