The heavy presence of security around Obama was also a silent reminder of the change that took place with the announcement. Michelle Obama, the candidate’s wife, acknowledged it in an interview to air on CBS’ “60 Minutes,” in which she was asked if she fears for her husband’s life as a black candidate.

“I don’t lose sleep over it because the realities are that . . . as a black man . . . Barack can get shot going to the gas station,” Michelle Obama said in the interview, set to air Sunday night. “You can’t make decisions based on fear and the possibility of what might happen.”

Well, I’m sure glad I’m white because that means I won’t be shot while “going to the gas station.” I forgot about that unwritten rule where only black men can be shot and no one else.

Last time I heard of someone getting shot at a gas station was when those 2 black guys were sniping at white people near Washington, DC.

If you want to be a dupe for Obama, go for it...I sure I'm not the only person who thought about RFK...or MLK. The unstated point of course (to go along with the "ready" slam), is that if someone doesn't agree with you, they will kill you...and if you're a black man, whitey is gonna git you, keep you in your place.

This isn't a complicated read at all, straightforward political communication analysis. I think it's well done, if despicable. It's a mixture of Kennedyesque themes, I suspect it's been polled also, aimed at guilty white liberals and blacks who might also vote for Hillary...because he's not "black enough." That's not my words, that's Sharpton.

If you bought it, that's what they wanted. Some of us are more sophisticated consumers of political messages.

I have lately had a gnawing feeling that a staged "attempt" would be made against the junior senator, then found to have been perpetrated by a conservative/republican/christian in an effort to garner last minute sympathy for her. Remember how quickly they jumped on the VRWC right after the OK City bombing. These folks ambitions know no bounds and we'd probably all be amazed at the tricks they have up their (collective) sleeve.
