I am one of those Republicans who is completley on the fence regarding our 2008 presidential nominee. I was convinced the McCain was the only guy who could win, but I've backed off that. Each candidate has a little something that I like. If the primary where today, I would probably back MItt Romney, and am waiting to see what Jim Gilmore does. But there is one candidate who is incredibly impressive and meets the criterea of what I want in a candidate:
- Tough Border security - Free Trader - Pro Life - Willing to continue the global War on Terror - Committed to tax cuts and limited government.
That man is Rep. Duncan Hunter of California. Many yawned at his candidacy, and I'm still not convinced, but he looks better and better every day compared to the candidates we have now. I worry about this electibility out of the House, but in this era of Internet, YouTube, and Blogs; its easier than ever for a smaller candidate to reach out to the country and be discovered. Hunter may lack charisma, but he is sound on every criteria.
Here is his new website: http://www.gohunter08.com/Home.aspx

OK who knows what about this guy?
He has my vote.
He's gettin famous here at FR. LOL
If Duncan Hunter can win it, great. In any case, if he can get exposure now, it may be helpful in the future.
I must say that just about all the other conservative candidates who have been mentioned in FR have already shown they have feet of clay. So far, Hunter still looks good. My position right now is to lay back and keep watching what happens next.
Tom McClintok would have been the guy, but the purists stayed home cuz they could stand Arnold.
I know you and I disagree on a whole host of issues. So if Hunter can bring our two disparate souls together, he can bring the rest of the GOP/conservatives together. LOL
He may hold similar views, but that's where the comparison ends. He's not a recognizable celebrity, as Reagan was in his day. Has he ever been elected to statewide office? Has he ever held an executive office position? Or is he just one of those guys likes to talk to the CSPAN cameras when the chamber's empty? No offense, but whatever he is, he ain't anywhere near Reagan.
10-4
Which prolly gives him about as much chance of winning as Alan Keyes ever had. lol.
Are you stalking me? LOL
Has mayor been elected Prez? How about a harping, screechy woman in a smelly pantsuit? How bout a big eared empty suit black guy?
Time will tell. if he is not significantly higher profile in 6 months, he may have to opt out. He has alot of people trying to assure he does not have to do that.
I liked McClintock. The Arnold/Guiliani wing of the GOP must meet its match now.
I'm just saying, you can't compare a congresscritter, who only needs a small district to vote him in, to Reagan winning the governorship of Cali. Not the same ballpark.
To those "Moderates" who sell for votes the for-profit destruction of our unborn children's lives--who sell for incumbency assurance their "Fairness Doctrine" and "McCain-Feingold" and sundry other infringements upon our God-Given Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness:
Don't count Newt out.
Welcome aboard, blur.
Is it true he supported No Child Left Behind?
I don't count him out. As Hunter's VP choice.
