Fuji TV of Japan reported on Feb. 12 that they scored an interview with Kim Jong-nam who showed up in Beijing on his way to Pyongyang in time for attending Kim Jong-il's birthday on Feb. 16.
Kim Jong-nam showed up at a shopping center in Beijing downtown on Feb. 11, where he said, "I am seeing my father once in a while, and I have no problem going in and out of N. Korea."
When he turned up, he dressed casually, wearing dark-colored sweaters, jeans, a cap and sunglasses. Asked what his name, address, and occupation are, he just said, "No comments."
At first he tried to avoid the interview, giving a gesture of putting his index finger on his lips, but soon he started to answer reporters' question in a calm manner.
In a seven minute interview conducted in English, he said, "Since I studied in Europe, I could speak some English and French." As for 6-party talks (which were under way in Beijing at the time,) "I have no interest in them. They have nothing to do with me."
Asked if he visits Beijing frequently, he answered, "Of course." When somebody asked, "Do you come here for business?", he said, "Well, if you think it as business, it could be business. I sometimes spend a day or two here, and then head for a European or Asian country."
After his interview, He went away in a luxury car, which came to pick him up.
Kim Jong-nam departed from Macau carrying a passport under the name of 'Kim Chol' on the morning of Feb. 11, and arrived in Beijing on the afternoon of the same day. He was spotted by Japanese news crews waiting at the airport after being tipped off. However, he managed to lose them at the airport and at the entrance of the hotel he is staying.
At the airport, when a Japanese news reporter said, "Mr. Kim Jong-nam, please, can you speak Japanese?", he responded in Japanese, "I can't speak Japanese."
Fuji TV also filmed the footage of Kim Jong-nam talking over his cell phone in Korean before his departure in Macau.

Ping!
no apparent political involvement or ambition, he probably just hopes he (literally and economically) survives any fall of his father's regime. from what i have read he is not in any succession line in DPRK.
He is also said to be one of China's back-up plans.
"Me so chrubby."
Thank you for your translations.
Oh, he was allowed to study abroad? Some Communists are more equal than others.
