The donks won't touch it (yet), but that doesn't mean an anti-gun Republican wouldn't. There's always risk of a triangulating, "it takes a Nixon to go to China" effect. For example, it took the 'toon, of all people, to ramp up the federal prosecution of marijuana users ("look, I'm a tough-on-drugs democrat!"). Rudy is no weaselly 'toon, of course, but I could easily see him pursuing a policy that he sincerely believes, and scoring political points across the aisle while doing it.
