when he proposes federal gun control restrictions like NYC has - for everyone - then we'll talk.
the most likely outcome on this issue would be - the status quo. if Rudy were to be president, the status quo on the gun issue would be retained, I doubt it would move in either direction.
what has Bush done on the gun issue?
I disagree -- Rudy has said repeatedly, in one way or another, that he believes that fewer guns = fewer crimes. As far as I know, he has never said that he believes this only applies to NYC. I must conclude, therefore, that he believes that fewer guns = fewer crimes is true universally (if he didn't believe that, he would have said so, as he is an excellent communicator).
Rudy tends to be tireless and very effective in putting his beliefs into action. Therefore, I do not believe that we would have merely status quo with Rudy as president and a donk congress.
It's a shame, too, because I do like Rudy.
He already did that back in '97 or '98, after the shootings atop the Empire State Building. Which was classic pre-911 thinking, btw. The problem was not an armed Palestinian Muslim looking for Jews to shoot before martyring himself, oh no. The problem was that it was easier to buy a gun in the state of Florida than in the city of New York.
Are you seriously telling me that I have to wait until he proposes as president what he seriously and enthusiastically promoted ten years ago---uniform national gun control in all fifty states---before I get concerned?
President Bush helped with the gun issue by sending strong signals to the UN to not back that ridiculous anti-gun treaty, and he encouraged the anti-lawsuit against gun manufacturers bill that stopped people like Giuliani from suing gun manufacturers into bankruptcy.
If Rudy becomes president I could easily see him backing Bloomberg and Schumer, et al, into a new round of ruinous lawsuits and regulations designed to destroy firearms manufacturing in this country.
He WOULD let us keep the single-action and double barreled shotguns used for hunting ducks, though!
