Upstate New York Is Hit by More Snow; Total Accumulation Over 7 Days Measures 110 Inches (GW Alert!)

PARISH, N.Y. -- With more than 8 feet of snow already coating the ground, it wasn't good news for this winter-weary region when the blue sky turned gray Saturday, signaling another intense snow squall was about to dump some more.

"This is bad," said 67-year-old Dave DeGrau, who has operated an auto repair shop on Main Street for 45 years. "We had a very easy winter until now. Last fall during hunting season it rained every time I went out. I kept saying 'I'm glad this isn't snow.' Now, it's snow."

...

The National Weather Service said Parish _ about 25 miles northeast of Syracuse _ reached a milestone early Saturday with 100 inches of snow during the past seven days. Late Saturday, the total had risen to 110 inches. Unofficial reports pegged totals at 123 inches in Orwell and 131 in Redfield, but those measurements include snow from another storm a couple of days before the current weather system. All three towns are in Oswego County.

A warning in effect until Monday morning said 2 to 4 more feet of snow was possible with wind gusting up to 24 mph.

The TV guy was wrong. And so are you if you think he was right. It is the temperature delta when lake water is above freezing that is the key, not the absolute temp of the water. IOW's if the the temperature of the water is x and the arctic air is x-25, you get the same amount of snow if the temperature was x+3 and the arctic air temp was (x-22), everything else being equal.

The point being that this blast of arctic air is very cold and very dry, two things that AGW doesn't predict and this "weatherman" doesn't mention. It's an agenda thing.

Never mind, AGW predicts everything, I forgot. Adios amigo.

The TV guy appears to have been emphasizing this part of the lake-effect snow causal web:
Latent Heating: Latent heat release from condensation (cloud formation) provides an important additional energy source for convective instability and subsequent lake effect snows (as it is a significant heat input to the mixed layer). (from the NOAA passage you posted above)

The warmer the water, the more evaporation there is into the atmosphere, which leads to more water vapor condensing into clouds and more moisture to form snow. It's the remarkable heaviness of the lake-effect snow this year that he was discussing.

But I thank you for the reference...

BTW, I'm no defender of AGW...

Why am I not hearing the cries for Federal aid, Greyhound buses, the looting stories, and the squeals for FEMA money like New Orleans?

Can it just be that Northern and Western New York State is still populated by hardy self sufficient non-sniveling, hard working people??

Too bad Al Gore doesn't bottle all his hot air and sell it to people like the guy in your picture. That guy could melt his snow without shoveling, and Al Gore could use the profits from the hot air sale to fund more 90% science.

Kind of like use chicken droppings to fertilize the crop you use to feed the chickens to make more droppings ....
