Giuliani Strikes a Note With California GOP Testing the Waters, Former N.Y. Mayor Garners 4 Ovations
SACRAMENTO, Feb. 10 -- Rudolph W. Giuliani came west to learn whether his brand of Republican politics has a chance among party members significantly more conservative than himself. By the time he had received a fourth standing ovation Saturday at the California Republican Party convention, the answer seemed clear.
Equating the U.S. fight against terrorism with the Civil War and the Cold War, Giuliani told about 750 of his party's faithful that failure in Iraq would turn that country into a "massive headquarters for terrorism."
"Having had a job where I didn't have any choice but to make a decision," the former mayor of New York said, "prepares you as best you can be prepared to be the president of the United States."

"There are only 750 Republicans in California???"
But how many conservatives?
I'm not a big fan of 'spam' either, the problem is some are here a lot and tire of seeing it over and over and get to know each other and their sides of things all to well and show it in the open animosities that flourish here thru the different campaigns and such, yet there are other folks who may not come thru here very often and might not see it otherwise.
There is a fine line that oft gets trampled, yet who knows somewhere down the road , the 'favor' may get returned.
This place has a way of leveling and elevating issues and proponents on both sides, unfortunately it's like a sausage factory process and not necessarily for the queasy.
Someone said today that he was being investigated by the DOJ regarding bribery and some military contractors, I have no idea if this is true, perhaps someone could clarify?
As Tom Bevan of RealClearPolitics has pointed out, Rudy is an adherent of the same approach to illegal immigration that John McCain, Ted Kennedy, George Bush, and Harry Reid have championed:
"While McCain has taken heat for his support of comprehensive immigration reform, Rudy is every bit as pro-immigration as McCain - if not more so. On the O'Reilly Factor last week Giuliani argued for a "practical approach" to immigration and cited his efforts as Mayor of New York City to "regularize" illegal immigrants by providing them with access to city services like public education to "make their lives reasonable." Giuliani did say that "a tremendous amount of money should be put into the physical security" needed to stop the flow of illegal immigrants coming across the border, but his overall position on immigration is essentially indistinguishable from McCain's."
That's bad enough. But, as Michelle Malkin has revealed, under Giuliani, New York was an illegal alien sanctuary and "America's Mayor" actually sued the federal government in an effort to keep New York City employees from having to cooperate with the INS:
"When Congress enacted immigration reform laws that forbade local governments from barring employees from cooperating with the INS, Mayor Rudy Giuliani filed suit against the feds in 1997. He was rebuffed by two lower courts, which ruled that the sanctuary order amounted to special treatment for illegal aliens and were nothing more than an unlawful effort to flaunt federal enforcement efforts against illegal aliens. In January 2000, the Supreme Court rejected his appeal, but Giuliani vowed to ignore the law."
If you agree with the way that Nancy Pelosi and Company deal with illegal immigration, then you'll find the way that Rudy Giuliani tackles the issue to be right down your alley.

The words of Jim Robinson on pushing a liberal like Rino Rudy.
Your father is pretty hard core Conservative, I take it. :-)

Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it.
Rudy Giuliani
That's why he's polling way above the pack.
There is no issue that could be considered more important than national security.
There is an endless parade of single issue voters in the general population and FReepers alike and they share the same common stupidity.
One might not like gay, gun, tax, blah, blah, stances on a particular slice of our diverse population but it's all pointless if your dead.
Abortion, gay marriage and the like bear no relevance or priority when the residents of that same city have been wiped out by the islamofascists by a dirty bomb.
He makes the extreme right wing look like liberals!!! ...LOL.
Are you trying to quote?
"And you want a dress-wearing draft-evading liberal to be your standard bearer?"
Yep. Sure do!
Size matters. ;-)
Other than tax cuts, the biggest domestic issue of the 2004 election was President Bush's support of a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as being between a man and a woman. Unfortunately, Rudy Giuliani has taken a "Kerryesque" position on gay marriage.
Although Rudy, like John Kerry, has said that marriage should remain between a man and a woman, he also supports civil unions, "marched in gay-pride parades" ...dressed up in drag on national television for a skit on Saturday Night Live (and moved in with a) wealthy gay couple" after his divorce. He also very vocally opposed running on a gay marriage amendment:
His thoughts on the gay-marriage amendment? "I don't think you should run a campaign on this issue," he told the Daily News earlier this month. "I think it would be a mistake for anybody to run a campaign on it -- the Democrats, the president, or anybody else."
Here's more from the New York Daily News:
"Rudy Giuliani came out yesterday against President Bush's call for a ban on gay marriage.
The former mayor, who Vice President Cheney joked the other night is after his job, vigorously defended the President on his post-9/11 leadership but made clear he disagrees with Bush's proposal to rewrite the Constitution to outlaw gays and lesbians from tying the knot.
"I don't think it's ripe for decision at this point," he said on NBC's "Meet the Press."
"I certainly wouldn't support [a ban] at this time," added Giuliani..."
Although Rudy may grudgingly say he doesn't support gay marriage (and it would be political suicide for him to do otherwise), where he really stands on the issue is an open question.
I give up. Some of you love playing victim even as you peddle Progressivism and back candidates that are Okey doke in your eyes but god help anyone who doesn't agree with you.
I really wonder who is the real unappeasable and who eggs on others to mask their own deficiencies if you will.. Or seek to get away from the issues at hand and make it all about personalities instead.
You may have voted for Reagan but who did you vote for in the recall and where has that gotten us? why should folks so readily accept your reasoning especially so early in this election cycle?
Take that up with your little spamming pals. They need to clean up their act and you can help.
My replies to your two specific comments in that previous post are in parens. would you like it reformatted?
Of course, her major hint, at the end of the show, must foreshadow what'll happen next week; at least I'm guessing that it will. But somehow, bringing Zach's/Alex's first girlfriend, back from the dead, is overkill. Perhaps it's the adoptive mother....but wasn't she also supposed to be dead?
How would you folks like it if we posted Rudy pictures all over your Hunter threads?

why are they my "pals"? I'm not sure I follow your logic that because folks don't agree with you, they are part of a pack out to undercut you and your preferred candidate, lots of folks are independent thinkers here and can take care of and fend for themselves. seems a bit broad brushish .
Like I said, it's a 2 way street.
