Space energy or manufacturing options are not practical as long as we depend on rocketry for propulsion. When anti-gravity or something similar comes along we're in business. Until then, forget it. The cost of getting payload to orbit is just too great.

Dr O'Neil had a PHD in Physics and taught Physics at Princeton. His Proposal to make Space Exploration a self funding activity was NOT DERANGED. NASA provided him a grant to write about he and his student's efforts to move us out into space.

The mass driver, the Lunar Colonies and the Factories in space were not deranged!

Of course, move all heavy industry off planet and all mankind benefits. Imagine steel I Beams made in space and smaller and stronger since their crystal structure would be more perfect.

Of course, Werner von Braun spoke of these products which would make sense since a more perfect product, like jet turbine blades could also be made.

Technically, that was water vapor, not steam. No one in the power generation industry would call the cooling tower plume, which is probably what you saw, "steam".
