*BUMP*! . . .

I was talking to a guy last week. He told me that individual mortgages are sold in packages, or groups numbering in the hundreds, as 'consolidated mortgage obligations.' These debt obligations are then repackaged and sold on Wall Street. He was concerned because Wall Street is rumored to be reselling these securities again and again to foreign investors. Selling the same securities to new suckers again and again sounds like some sort of pyramid scheme. What do foreign investors overseas really understand about an individual mortgage in a sea of debt anyway? Oh, well, not for me to worry anyway. Time to move on.

Jefferson:

Merchants have no country. The mere spot they stand on does not constitute so strong an attachment as that from which they draw their gains.

I don't know where you stand, but if those few links aren't enough to make you wonder who's interests our 'news' sources serve, I don't know what will. I feel like I've just clawed myself out of a most excellent propaganda cocoon.
