Acknowledging that his presidential campaign has opened a racial debate, Sen. Barack Obama, who has a white mother and an African father, says if you look African-American, you are treated like one. Obama and his wife, Michelle, who also addresses the race issue, appear in an interview with Steve Kroft to be broadcast on 60 MINUTES, Sunday Feb. 11 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS television Network. If, as expected, Obama declares his formal candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination tomorrow, it will be his first interview to be broadcast after that event.

Thomas Jefferson wrote that "three crosses clear the blood," as if people with just a small proportion of African ancestry would be considered white, but I don't see what he based that on. In practice, if people could tell someone had some African ancestry, he was considered "Negro."

There are some identities that supercede black--someone of mixed Native American and black ancestry can be Native American if accepted as such by the tribe, and Hispanics with some African ancestry are Hispanics.

The DC snipers were Muslims although apparently not acting on behalf of any Muslim organization...freelance terrorists. I don't recall if any motive was established in court.

When Barak heard his wife say that (on primetime 60 minutes), I guarantee you he said to himself...Damn, this is over before it has even started.
Nobody wants to hear that crap. No white guilt here.

You know, when we moved to Maryland it was clear that anyone can get shot...and by black men. I'm talking about the snipers in 2002.


Being black doesn't give you the claim to the mantel of being a target.
