Mysterious Death of Iranian Nuclear Physicist

Esfandiar Saffari - 2007.02.08

Despite initial denials by Iran’s state-run media, Baztab news website [affiliated with former Passdaran Revolutionary Guards commander Mohsen Rezai] confirmed the “mysterious” death of Ardeshir Hosseinpour, a senior nuclear physicist involved in the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

Baztab quoted “one of Hosseinpour’s acquaintances” as saying, “Unfortunately, 20 days ago, Dr. Ardeshir Hosseinpour, who was only 40 years old and a medal-holder in Kung Fu, passed away in a house belonging to a professor at Shiraz University.”

Baztab did not reveal further more details about the death, but confirmed that Dr. Hosseinpour played a key role in “designing and engineering centrifuges in Iran.”

According to published reports, Dr. Ardeshir Hosseinpour was born in 1962 and had a degree in electrical engineering and a PhD in nuclear physics.

The local media in Iran only reported that Dr. Hosseinpour had passed away “24 hours after being awarded the top prize at the Kharazmi International Science Festival,” held in Iran every year as part of the commemorations for the victory of the 1979 revolution.

The mysteries surrounding Hosseinpour’s death began with the unofficial announcement of his death 6 days after the event. In recent days, some international media outlets claimed that the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad, was involved in the death of this 44-year-old physicist.

Iranian officials have not yet commented on allegations over Mossad’s involvement. Three days ago however, Fars News Agency quoted a “knowledgeable official” as saying, “None of Iran’s nuclear scientists have been assassinated, and Mossad does not have such operational capabilities in Iran.”

Fars’s “knowledgeable official” believed that foreign media such as Sunday Times and Time magazine published the story of Hosseinpour’s assassination by Mossad in order to wage psychological warfare on Iran, and cover up for the intelligence failures of the United States and Israel. He said, “Ardeshir Hosseinpour was a professor at Shiraz University and passed away recently due to a gas leak. He has no connections with Isfahan’s nuclear facilities.”

Meanwhile, Baztab news website reported, “Ardeshir Hosseinpour was one of Iran’s top centrifuge engineers.”

This is the first mention I've seen that said he died at a colleague's house.

That would rule out a lab accident or work related accident such as being exposed to gas, as was previously speculated.

He thought his friend was kidding when he offered him and drink and said "Name your poison!"

He was forty years old, born in 1962 and died in 2007. He was way brilliant, dicovering the fountain of youth. I know the Persians use their own calendar, but this is the most mysterious thing of all about his death.

Well, he could have been exposed to the gas at the lab, and then went to a friend's house and died there. I do not think that radioactive gas kills you instantaneously. It likely makes you sick as that Russian guy was from radiation poinsoning a few months ago, and die over several days.

work-related exposure isn't really ruled out... some poisons take a while to become symptomatic. however, while it could be natural causes, I hope either CIA, MI6, or Mossad found a way to end his participation in the endeavor.

I don't know how fast radioactive gas kills you. I suppose it is dose related.
Why go to friend's and not a hospital.?
His death seemed much faster than the Russian's

I've doubted an assassination by outsiders like mossad.
I'd believe an inside job first.

but if mossad or someone was able to arrange an inside job... perhaps make the Iranian authority think he was a potential threat to the program.... ???

get the popcorn... this'll read like a Clancy novel

He was forty years old, born in 1962 and died in 2007. He was way brilliant,

......he was brilliant in that special muslim way.... ya know...like that basic math way..... 2007-1962=40......

perhaps he discovered traveling at the speed of light and was able to time travel.... like Marty McFly........or maybe if these asshats can't do basic math, we really don't have a problem with their physics application in the field of nuclear weapons.

they've probably stolen or purchased old soviet bombs and will claim them as their own...... unfortunately muslims remind me of roaches or flies.....they're hard to eradicate, are under every crevice and what they don't eat, they sh#t on....

"Probability of kill does not equal unity."

Actually, it's probability of negation, that we're worried about, P-sub-n. P-sub-n equals P-sub-k times several other terms (probability of acquistion, track, launch, etc.)

P-sub-n = P-sub-k x other terms

Other terms are all less than 1.0.

Add to that...

Hmmm...

Not necessarily. Fluoride poisoning takes hours to days to manifest itself. The flouride goes after calcium in the bones, teeth and nervous system. A balance of calcium and potassium ions is the mechanism of transmitting nerve impulses.

I know of a recent case where a worker was exposed to hydrogen fluoride. He went to the hospital and was sent home. He died later that night, apparently because the hospital failed to recognize or understand the effects of fluoride poisoning.

If our man here had been exposed to uranium hexaflouride in the course of his work, he could have been a dead man walking for a considerable time between the exposure and his demise.
