Do what I do when researching a candidate, find the most liberal rag in there respective region and search there archives for the most horrendous and ridiculous article about them, that will get the bad and the ugly out of the way :)

ROFL! I do that! I even do that for products I want to buy. I type in the worst adjectives along with the key word I'm searching for to see the worst of the worst critiques. Then I go forward to the best. After that it is quite easy to see who, or what, is the best option. And that option usually falls between the two extremes, in that glorious place called, "the middle". ;)

I especially do that on apartments, on ratings websites, between what the disgruntleds and management posts you usually can get a picture of the place.
